I am not really sure how to discribe how I feel inside.. but here goes. I have been feeling like I am going to have a nervous breakdown on the inside, but on the outside I feel numb, and cold, even when it's 100 degress outside I feel could is there anything anyone can tell me that it might be. I am really tired of going to the doctor and just blow it off and tell u there is nothing wrong..blood work is good blah blah. same old thing. I did take my blood sugar this morning and it was a little high, I DO NOT have diabetic, I just took it just to check it. Thank you if someone can tell me something.

it's more of a paralyz feeling that I feel at the same time nerve and the cold feeling.

When I'm anxious to the point that I feel on edge (ie. having a nervous breakdown, maybe) I'm also cold. Numb is the way we feel when we're having emotions and we don't know how to deal with them and usually don't even recognize them as emotions.

When I was in my 20's I felt like this often and finally went to see a psychiatrist. I learned after several sessions that I was anxious and depressed. Up until then I couldn't tell you how I felt. I just was. This was before drugs for depression. With counseling I learned how to recognize what I was feeling and how to deal with it.

Sounds like you've been to the doctor often. I suggest you try a counselor/therapist now.

Yep, I agree with the anxiety or a depression. My husband is manic depressive and he gets the numb/cold feelings when an episode is coming on.
Talk to a therapist, try not to go on any drugs if you can help it.

It sounds like anxiety to me. I struggle with it. I too feel cold and tend to shiver.
Anxiety isn't something that will show up on bloodwork. I take a low dose of ativan when I begin to feel anxious. I don't even take it every day.
I would talk to your doctor about it and if he won't listen, see one who will. Anxiety is real and it can affect your health in other ways.
It's worth a try. You might feel better.

Anxiety aside, I'm very thin so I tend to feel cold even when everyone else is running around half naked. It takes a lot for me to wear something sleeveless or have bare legs. I don't have bad circulation, I just don't like feeling chilly.

I would really consider the anxiety angle.
I hope you'll be feeling better soon.

Get a second opinion--a new physician or contact a counselor. It does sound like anxiety or depression or stress. OR....when I was taking in a lot of caffeine, I had similar feelings. Either way, hon, take care and find someone who can figure it out((HUGS))

Might be anxiety. Anxiety does effect everyone differently and from what you have mentioned just seems to be something to look into. Is there something that you are stressed, worried or unsure about. It is something you can bring up to the doctor. If there is an issue that you are worries about or something that is countinly happening find techniques or a way to deal with that issue so you feel less paniced about it.

I deal with depresson and anxiety attacks. It is something I worked through with my doctor to find techniques that worked for me. At times I have to go on depression meds but rarely, it is the last resort for me.

Sounds like anxiety, I'm sorry your DR didn't talk to you about that possibility (?) Please google "severe anxiety" and see if that fits your symptoms. I hope you can get some help/relief, whatever it is :)

Hi,
I know how you feel as I used to feel like that. I finally cracked and then I knew something needed to be done. I had been getting more on edge and cranky for a long time. I had aches and pains all over my body. I went to see a psychiatrist and she gave me anti depressants. I was and still are amazed at the effect. My sanity and normal personality returned, and all of my aches and pains went. I had not realized that I was suffering from depression. My kids were 3 and nearly 2 years old. One had been diagnosed with autism about a year before. I am still taking anti depressants, but depression has dogged me since I was about 15 years old, so it may be a long term treatment. I am so thankful for my medication. It has changed my life from saddness and feeling like I was insane. Now I can function nrmally and do the things that others do without any problems. I hope this is useful. Maybe if it fits you you might want to talk to a psychiatrist instead of you regular doctor. I felt so horrible before I was treated. Good luck, and I hope you feel better soon.

Hi, I had anxiety for a year. I had the same symptoms as you. This was due to my breaking up with a boyfriend of 5 years, trying to finish university, and getting a job all at the same time. It took a toll on me. I remember one doctor telling me, "we have to get to the root of the problem or it won't go away". He knocked some sense into me somehow, and I got myself into the gym, connected with my friends and family etc, and overall just taking care of me. Make yourself the important object in life, do things that will make you happy. You should be in charge of your life not anyone else. If anything stay away from meds. I don't think they'll improve your symptoms. I wish you luck, and remember whose important.

My aunt had this. I was very close to her and she would explain just those symptoms. She had a high stress and she ended up having a breakdown. Nothing long lasting but she did struggle w/it for a couple of years prior to the breakdown. I think it was brought on my her kids leaving the nest, marital problems etc. She did finally get some meds when she went to a psychologist. Her reg doctor couldn't help her.

I've had a history of panic attacks and anxiety in the past... not saying that is what is going on here, but there have been times where I've felt that way. Also, I do know that stress and anxiety can raise your blood sugar. It's your body's way of protecting itself with the fight or flight response. I second the recommendation to see a good therapist or psychiatrist. It can't hurt to check it out.

this doctor will listen to you and help you. you might find a local doctor through him. be persistant with his nurses. he is usually backed up for several months. he is good. your temp being cold seems to be something physical which makes me think something is off balance with your system. and if your hormones/chemicals are out of wack i would think that would mess with your brain and other parts of your body making you feel like this.

i had a issue down under when i became pregnant with my first, that doc said it was normal would go away after a yr. on to my second doctor and a yr later i was still not normal. she was really confused and gave up saying some women have it for life. third doc tried a couple of things even though they were negative test results nothing, fourth doc had no clue. fifth doctor said my ph levels were off (that is dr mabray) then i find out i am pregnant with my second and am seeing a doctor my insurance covers a yr after she was born still having this issue. sixth doctor said yes my ph levels were off a bit and prescribed me a medication that would balance it back. well that med messed with it and my ph levels are still off. i have finally convenced my hubby that mabray might be considered a quack but if all these other mainstream doctors could not figure it out and he did why not go back to him and use him. he is constantly getting further education and when ppl tell me nothing is wrong but obvously something is i like to go with the guy that can help me.

Try a psychologist next. It's probably going to be something that he/she has experience treating. If money is an issue, check with your insurance program; some of it might be covered. Also, if you or a spouse is employed, you can sometimes get free therapy (a certain number of sessions) through employee assistance programs.

Dear S. R.,

There are many questions that I would like answered before jumping on the anxiety/depression bandwagon. Have you had these symptoms for a long time? Have they come and gone over a period of years? Have you had any major stressors lately? Are you of menopausal/perimenopausal age? What type of work do you do? Are you a type A personality? Do you smoke? Drink lots of caffeine? Do you feel tired when you wake up? Are you more irritable?
Do you suffer from aches, pains, migraines, allergies? Do you experience any fatigue during the day? Are you exhausted at night but can't go to sleep or can't stay asleep? Our hormones can do all kinds of crazy things to us and there are few Dr.s who deal with it b/c there is no money to be made and the pharmaceutical companies drive the medical field. (No med. to fix the problem) If you answered yes to most or all of these questions, I would recommend going to a naturopathic dr. They try to get to the cause and don't just treat symptoms. We have several glands in our body responsible for hormone balance and one is our adrenal gland. This is where our fight or flight response originates. If we live with high stress (good or bad stress) for a long period of time (which is most of us) then it stresses this gland and then both physical and emotional symptoms will erupt. It can be reversed and healed with proper diet, exercise (in some instances this means minimal exercise so not to stress the gland even more), supplements to alleviate adrenal gland stress, and learning more about ourselves and using destressing techniques.
If you would like more information you can go to women to women.com and there is a book you can purchase called "Are you tired and wired?" by Marcelle Pick. I would recommend researching this possibility as an alternative to antidepressants.
I wish you all the best in your journey to health.

I agree with Kim P. about hormones. I highly recommend the Hotze Health and Wellness Center for a bio-identical solution to hormone imbalance. I've been going there for about 5 years. They are outstanding. And they will listen to you. Their website is www.hotzehwc.com. I suggest you call for a free consultation. I did that and they spent a hour and a half on the phone with me answering all my questions. Even if you don't end up going there the free consultation is so worth it. Their website also has a lot of patient testimonials which helped me see there were other people out there like me who got better with bio-identical hormones.

You could be hypothryoid- makes you feel cold as well as having mental/emotional effects.

Did the doc check your thyroid? What was your TSH?
