Weight Watcher Problems

I started WW's almost 3 weeks ago and I am feeling really discouraged. I am supposed to have 34 points a day, but I lowered that to 30 to boost my weight loss (I have more that 100 pounds to lose), and after 3 weeks I have not lost a single pound. Every time I weigh in I almost cry and I want to quit, but this has been the only "diet" that has helped me eat healthy. I have stopped drinking sodas, we havent eaten out, and I do feel better, but I really need to lose the weight. Should I lower my points more? I walk every evening with my kids, so I am active the 30 minutes a day that WW suggests. What should I do???

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you guys so much for all of your wonderful advice! I have decided to go back to eating 34 points instead of 30 and also adding something else to my exercise routine, other than just walking. I am attending the weekly meetings, and that has helped me so much. Also, to the woman who asked how I got my points- I figured them out with the booklet they gave me at my first meeting- the reason my number is so high is because, unfortunately I weigh alot.

The beauty of the WW program is that it calculates the amount of points your body needs at the PRESENT TIME... don't NOT eat the allotted points... otherwise you're sabatoging your diet by slowing your metabolism down too much.

You didn't get 100 pounds overweight overnight so don't get discouraged when it doesn't disappear that quickly either. Man, if we could will away weight... can you imagine how we'd all look? I wish! :)

You've just got to keep a balance... the best thing is to eat many small meals rather than 3 large ones.. which is why they have the snacks filtered in. But it's not uncommon once your body goes into the adjustment period for you to hit plateaus all throughout your program... the secret is to just STICK WITH IT! :) WW works... I'm proof of that!

Eat the amount of points you are supposed to! The point levels are designed to represent the minimum calories and nutrition that you need for healthy weight loss. If you do not eat enough, your metabolism goes down because your body thinks you are starving and it will actually start storing more fat to compensate for not eating enough. The whole point is to get there safely and steadily, there is no way to magically rush the process along. Your points will go down as you lose weight, so enjoy them while you have them!

Y.,

I am on WW and have lost 18 pounds but have about 20 or so more to go. Please go back to the amount of points it says to be on b/c when you don't eat enough your body goes into starvation mode and won't let go of any weight. Stick with it and keep eating healthy. As you lose weight it will adjust how many points you get and it will go down as you lose it b/c you will need less. I wish you success on your journey!

How did you find out how many points you're supposed to have? did you do the point questionnaire on the WW website - once you're a member you can figure that out.

That seems like many points to have daily. My pts are 25.

Are you drinking enough water daily? Are you taking a daily vitamin?

Also, you may need to step up your exercise. You need to get your heartrate up to the point that you're building up a good sweat (your shirt and sportsbra should be sweaty) and that you're huffing and puffing, but still able to carry on a conversation while working out. If you know your target heartrate (you can find an online calculator), then you can monitor your heartrate with portable devices or some exercise equipment have these (ellipticals/treadmills). I'm a member at a gym and it's the best $30/month we spend! I can do a variety of exercises; my son can play at their kids club. I get "me time" and he gets to play w/friends. Once I joined a gym, and I really stick to exercise (5 times a week, one hour each day) the pounds really come off.
Some people, like me, just need to exercise more than what others need to in order to lose weight. 30 mins of light walking won't do it for me. I have to do 1 hr of walking/elliptical (I usually do 30 mins tread; 30 mins elliptical) or step aerobics class at a vigorous pace. and I also have to do strength training/weights 2 times a week. The more muscle you build, the more calories you burn at rest.

Weigh yourself at the same time on the same day of the week. For example: every Friday morning at 8 a.m.
Good luck! Keep it up. Weight loss is a hard journey.

Hi Y.,
I'm also doing WeWa, only I'm doing it online. I agree with the others it is important to eat all your points. But it's hard!!! LOL! I'm finding that it is helping me eat better. I had your problem where no matter what I could lose the weight and it turns out I wasn't eating enough! So I'm hoping the points thing will help me. Don't get discouraged, keep on trying!

Stick with the points that they gave you. I also did WW a few years ago and thought that if I ate less points then I would lose the weight faster, well everytime I went to weigh in I either lost only 1 pound or nothing at all. When I told them what I was doing they told me to eat more, I did and when I weighed in the following week I had lost four pounds. As much as it seem to make since to eat less, it really throws our bodies into starvation mode and our bodies tend to want to hang on to fat for survival. So go ahead and eat all the points that you are allowed and continue to exercise and I bet you will then see results. Remember to take weight loss one day at a time and you will eventually get to where you want to be. Don't look at the 100lbs. you have to lose just look at losing the first 10. Good Luck!

Hello Y.;

Whatever you do don't quit. It will get better. My husband and I are trying to eat better. Both of us also need to lose 100+ pounds and we still don't eat that great all the time but we were walking through our nearby walking paths and I wasn't losing weight because I was eating better and was walking. When it got cold, we started going to the gym and all I would do is walk at a fast pace (#3 on the treadmill) for 30 minutes and I lost 20 lbs in about 3-4 weeks. It was great! So, even though you are walking with your kids, maybe it just isn't enough exercise for your body. If I can help in any way or you have any questions or want to talk please call me at ###-###-####. Hi Y.,

First off, make sure you are eating something for breakfast every morning. Breakfast is such an important meal to to kick start your metabolism each day.

Also, in my meeting I attended a couple weeks ago, our leader stressed how WW actually encourages you to use those extra 35 flex points. If you eat only 34 points a day, your body gets used to that and will plateau. You need those flex points to give your metabolism a little something different to boost it and make it work extra. She had a WW article for us that had this information in it.

Attend the meetings if you aren't already. It makes such a huge difference! And hey, you're making the effort to live a healthy lifestyle now and that's what matters. These new healthy eating habits will pass on to your children as well. Be proud of that!

I agree that as crazy as it sounds, you absolutely MUST eat the correct amount of points that is meant for you. The only points you don't have to eat are the extra 35 that are allotted for special times. Otherwise, you need to eat your 34 every day until you drop into the next tens, then it will drop by one point. For example, 240 is "X" amount of points but when you hit 239, you'll drop by one based on the formula for calculating points.

Are you attending the meetings after your weigh ins? I would strongly encourage you if you need some guidance to catch your leader after the meeting and explain what's going on and how you're feeling about it. Remember, each woman that leads these meetings has been a client of WW herself so she will understand everything you are feeling.

Are you using WW e-tools? If not, sign up today. There are so many boards you can check out, there are several 100 clubs, so those people will certainly be able to share what's working and not working for them. You get e-tools free if you sign up for the monthly draft which is $39.99/month - that's cheaper than paying weekly.

Try not to give up, there are so many stories of people who did it so it is possible. Just keep working for those stars, five pounds at a time. But most of all, EAT THOSE POINTS!!!! :-)

I am doing weight watchers and I am suppose to eat between 20-25 points a day. They tell you to shoot in the middle so I eat about 23 points a day. It took me awhile to get used to eating that little bit a day cause I was used to eating whatever I wanted whenever I wanted. I also had to get used to measuring and cointing everything including sugar and salt. Which does take some points away. I also quit eating after 7:30pm everyday. I have losted about 6 lbs. which isn't much but its something. Just be very strict and don't lower your points until you are suppose to. Just give it time and it will work. I get frustrated with it cause I want the weight gone fast but it won't go fast. I have three kids and my youngest is 6 months old and the weight will not go away so I am trying this and I hope it gets it all off. GOOD LUCK and keep it up.

Y., Don't give up hope. If you lose it fast it is not going to stay off. You did not say if you have lost any inches. You are feeling better, so that is good, but do it on your own terms, at your own pace. I read every book I could find, just started watching what I ate and how much I ate. And I work so much it is hard to get enough exercise, but I have lost some inches, but only 9 lbs. We all want a 'quick' fix, just continue as you are and watch your food and walk with your little ones, wishing you the best of luck! You can do it!!

Yes, eat ALL 34 of your points, everyday! It's really important. Make sure you are drinking at least 64 oz of water a day, getting your fruit and veggies in, and taking your daily vitamin. Use some flex points. (I save mine for weekends) I've found I lose a lot more if I have one or two high point days, and the rest strictly to my points target.
You CAN do this! I promise you :)
BTW, my nutritionist told me to never drop below 25 pts, period. I've shared with friends on WW, and they still lose weight at that rate. You don't need to starve yourself.

Hi Y.,

I know it sounds crazy, but you HAVE to eat all of your points!! If after a week or two of eating all your points you are still having trouble losing, then make sure you're eating your flex points as well!!

Basically, if you are eating less than your points, then you are shutting down your metabolism and your body goes into starvation mode: it will hold on to everything! You have to have the healthy food coming in constantly to keep your metabolizm revving up and burning.

Just give a try...you will be shocked!
