Weight Loss and Still Have Body Issues.

I am a healthy almost 40 year old mother of three amazing children. I have lost a total of 103 pounds from my very heaviest. I am now 180 (and 6 feet tall). I am so proud of my weight loss as I know I have done it the right way for me. Slow, lifestyle changes over a 16 month period. I feel happy and confident in a size 12. So the problem? I hate my body when I DON'T have clothes on. My husband.of course says the right things, thinks I'm beautiful, etc. But the sag and extra skin makes me cry. Literally.

Has anyone had surgery to get rid of this extra hanging skin? I can handle the flappy arms but my gut is disgusting.
Thanks

What can I do next?

I haven't had the surgery , I've lost a lot of weight but I never gained enough to have the leftover skin, I wanted to put that out there so you know where I am coming from. I just wanted to say that losing 100 lbs is AWESOME and I'm really happy for you and I'm pleased to hear your husband says the right things.

You may have to get a tuck here or there but I plead with you to stay optimistic, the extra skin is probably magnified in your mind and losing that weight put you in a much healthier state and made you a great example for your children!

Congratulations on your weight loss! A friend's boss lost over 100 lbs via weight loss surgery and she did have subsequent surgery to get rid of the extra skin. Hers might have been more pronounced than yours due to the rapid weight loss triggered by surgery, instead of doing it slowly and naturally like you did, but I would imagine that most people who have lost extreme amounts of weight have some degree of extra skin leftover and I know that would drive me nuts! Unless there are natural ways to reduce the stretched skin over time, I would think that surgery, if you can afford it, would be a nice way for you to finish off the process you started so that you can comfortably enjoy your new, healthy body!

First of all, it is a RARE woman over thirty who doesn't have some sort of gut, as well as other unappreciated skin literally hanging around. God was very kind to have given people the brains to design clothing! Look what clothes cover up!

You could ask your own doctor about surgery. (Your doctor would know the reputable people in your area.) But please be aware that the biggest "surgery," so to speak, needs to be in your thinking, I hope you're not passing judgment on yourself by comparisons to people in the media. They're half fantasy. There's a lot to them that you're NOT seeing. Any reputable plastic surgeon would tell you this, but you might as well start thinking about it now.

Please be careful not to consider your husband a liar just because he says he thinks you're beautiful. Maybe he doesn't think the gut is as important as the fact that you're healthier. Really. Maybe he's actually overjoyed with the way you look right now.

One hundred three pounds? Wow. You're certainly an inspiration to me, all right.

Woo-hoo! You go, girl! That's an amazing amount of weight to lose. Can you picture 103 lbs. of ground meat? LOL

I have not had experience with surgery like that, but if you can afford it, why not?

Just wanted to mention that your "gut" (as you so lovingly call it!) was the conduit for your 3 beautiful children. I think we need to accept the fact that motherhood changes our bodies, not always for the best, but, really, in the end it's about acceptance. Your body has done amazing work by growing and producing three kids! Can you learn to embrace that?

I went from 225 to 139. I was happy just like you with my clothes on. With them off I just wanted to cry. My skin was hanging everywhere. My breasts, arms, legs, BUTT, stomach.. It all sagged. I had to be fully clothed to hide it. Here I'd lost all this weight and thought I was going to be able to show my arms and nope I had to be more covered up than before. I thought about the surgery too but considering the possible risks and my medical conditions I was told I was a no go. I'd have to deal with the skin.

Well I had a baby and gained weight. I'm not a size 8 anymore and alot of my skin has filled back out. I don't weigh what I did at my heaviest but I'm not 139 anymore. Sadly being bigger is better for me. Much better. I get more compliments than I use to! I now use all the shapewear to hide my problem areas and I do look better. All the hanging skin was worse than a little bit of pudge sadly.

I personally have not. But, my sister in law got a tummy tuck after two babies. and it turned out great for her.
Its a expensive and serious surgery. But, if it will really make you happy after all that work on weight loss...why not?

Good luck, and congrats on all your weight loss!

I'm with you. I lost 55 lbs and am now a size 2 and probably hate my body just as much as before because now all I see is this skin jiggling and hanging and sagging. At least before it didn't jiggle like that, I was just thick. I can't stand to look in a mirror naked (love it with the clothes on though). The surgery is pretty painful to take off excess skin. You just have to weigh the pros and cons of both and determine if it's something you want to do.
