I highly recommend www.sparkpeople.com for weight loss. It moved to a free format last January and I was a paid member before that. It's worked beautifully for me because I'm able to track my fitness and nutrition, they have message boards where you can connecct with others and get excited about weight loss, and they have tons of great articles and recipes to help. I flunked weight watchers. It didn't make sense for me, and while I lost on low carb, once I went back to eating regular foods, it started coming back on. This program was the first that helped me focus on changing my attitude about food.

Hi J.,

I've had your message in my inbox for awhile. I skimmed through some of the responses and I think they were all good. Exercise and good nutrition are definitely key. While I have never had that kind of weight to lose, I wanted to share with you a couple of things that have worked for me, and I am confident can work for absoutely anyone. The first one is "Body for Life" You'll need to buy the book...I'm pretty sure the author is Bill Phillips. It is a 12 weeks program that can produce phenomenal results. It is stringent, but incredible. It incorporates optimal nutrition and exercise. It is possible that you could achieve your results with 2-3 of these 12 week programs back to back. I am actually getting ready to start this program again at the beginning of the year (its been about 4 years since I did it). The second thing is a program called Isagenix. My husband became somewhat involved with this after experiencing great results. He lost 22 pounds in 9 days! I didn't do a cleanse with him at that time because I was still breastfeeding, but when I did it, I lost 7 pounds in 9 days, but I also lost 13 inches! Now, this is not a lose weight fast, gain it right back type of thing. The 9 day cleanse is basically a jump start to getting your body in the fat-burning mode and setting you up for success. For the 9 day cleanse, on the first two days and the last two days, your only intake is the Isagenix cleansing drinks as well as their little snacks and a few almonds. Their products are great at stabalizing your blood sugar. Not saying it's easy, but definitely doable. The middle 5 days, you have one of their shakes for breakfast, a sensible lunch like chicken and broccoli, and a shake for dinner, plus some of their snacks in between. After doing the 9 day cleanse, you begin the maintenance program which consists of doing what you do on the middle 5 days of the cleanse until you reach your desired weight. Now, I have tried dozens of different brands of protein/nutrition shakes and these are by far the best...and they also have the best protein bars I've ever tasted. I know it's a lot of info., but I'm such a believer in either one of these plans that I wanted to share them with you. Whether you choose to apply the info. I've shared or are giving something else a shot, I'd love to hear how you're doing. This is definitely a tough time of year for everyone with all the cooking and baking going on. If you want to check out Isagenix, go to my husbands site which is www.stvarnell.isagenix.com. If you decide it's something you'd like to try, shoot me an email and I'll show you how get it at wholesale. Best Wishes. Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year! N. ____@____.com

J.,
I had the same a major weight loss problem, or should I say "lack of weight loss" after our fourth child. One of my daycare mom's gave me the website: www.customhrt.com and from there I ordered a three month supply of phentramine for less than $80.00. Less than two months have passed and I have lost 20 pounds already. My husbands HSA through his insurance even paid for the script! Hope that this helps some.

Exercise. It's a tough sell and it will take a while but if you're consistent and really want to lose weight, it's the only way. (Just like the biggest loser, they are constantly working out) My mother-n-law does curves and really likes it. There are a bunch or gyms that have daycare, including the YMCA that has free daycare. Plus the YMCA (I'm sure other places do too) has a free orientation to get you started. Or my aunt got a personal trainer that she still sees once a week and by working out, watching her diet, she's lost 75lbs and is in the best health/shape of her life!
Then concentrate on portion control. I read in Oprah magazine that you should really write down everything you put in your mouth. Everything from your meals to a taste of something while you're cooking to snacks. The article said that people underestimate sometimes 1,000 or more calories that they didn't realize they ate. I agree with another response about weight watchers. I've never tried it but I have friends who rave about how it has helped them whether they do it on their own or go in to the center.
It's really tough to cut back but if you really want to lose the weight, then it's worth it. I know after having my 2nd child and getting older, it's even harder. But once you start noticing that you're losing weight, you'll be even more motivated--I know I was!!
Good luck!!! You can do it!!

What is your diet like? I kept a journal of foods I ate and activities I did. I lost 40 lbs. in 4 months, while nursing a healthy baby and this is how. I worked out by walking 30 minutes a day, and moving things in my house to less convenient places (ie. taking the diapers up to the kids room) This made me have to carry them upstairs to change their diapers, and have to walk farther everyday in general. I also changed what I ate, but cheated whenever I felt the urge. (My weakness is dark chocolate and I ate it often). I cut out all red meat and ate every three hours. I grew up as part of the clean your plate club, but I abandoned this. Now I pack up what I don't eat and either eat it later or serve it to the kids. I lost a total of 50 pounds, and then found out I was pregnant again. I then lost another 14 while pregnant, and put it back on towards the end. It was gone after the baby though. Oh yeah and I do 24in24 of milk and drink H2O if I get hungry first because often that hunger feeling is actually thirst.

My husband has been on South Beach for 6 weeks and has lost 20 lbs. I'm on it too but appear to only be losing inches around waist and not pounds (down 2 jeans sizes so far), but I'm ever hopeful! It's a lot easier than it sounds and you eat SO much better while on the diet. I have a lot more energy just because I'm not eating junk/fast food as my meals. It's worth researching!

My email: cindari at sbcglobal dot net (this way spammers don't spam mail me)

Hope to hear from you!!

J.--My secret is ONLY buy what you know is good to eat--I buy the Lettuce mix and take it out and eat it by the handfulls, replacing potato chips that I used to eat that way and the same time of day.
If you have it there--you will eat what is good for you, otherwise you will turn to the old favorites-- easy advice--but really works for me.
I eat a fruit mid. morning and again around 4:30pm daily--curbs my hunger before a meal.
Hope that is helpful--you have to think about what you are going to eat before it is time to eat!

Hello!
J., I hope that in the last month you've been able to drop a few pounds. I started a program in early Sept and I'm down 25lbs. In all honestly the healthiest amount of weight to lose in 1 week is only 2 lbs. I go to LA Weight Loss, and although it is expensive the program does work. With losing weight slowly, you keep it off longer rather than losing it quickly. Good luck and I wish you all the best of luck. Just remember to eat healthy and drink lots of water.

I am an overweight, stay at home mom of two. I only have one suggestion, find some support. Is there anyone that you can work out with? Just before I had my daughter who is now 26 months old, I lost about 45 pounds. I was finally getting down to the ideal weight for me. Then I found out I was pregnant which was the biggest dream come true. Now I weigh almost as much as I did when I was 9 months pregnant. I need to lose 65 lbs and I find that without someone to work out with I lose all motivation. I keep saying maybe tomorrow I will do it. So I wish you all the best and say find a support group. I think that can make all the difference.

Honestly, look at what you eat.
Make sure you are getting in all of your fruits/veggies and dairy.....
If you look at the diets that really work all they do is revamp a good approach to eating.
Think of your dinner plate.
1/2 should be your veggies/fruit. (no sugar fat creams added)
1/4 the protien
1/4 a healthy starh...or skip it totally.
Let yourself have an occasional treat.
Drink lots of water.
Oh....and my saving grace .... make a broth based soup....and keep it on hand so if you are starving for dinner, have a cup first...if dinner is a long way away have a cup. I make it the following way for my taste:
1 Can FF Chicken broth
1 C Rotel tomatos
1 C black beans or pinto or even garbanzo beans
2 cans of other assorted veggies or a bag of frozen veggies depending on what I have....
Any combo works as long as you watch what goes in.

Awesome website. www.sparkpeople.com They have a nutrition tracker where you put in all your food, a fitness tracker where you put in all your exercises. It emphasizes the fact that it does not need to be a diet but a lifestyle change. And it is completely free!!!
