Weekend in NYC
I'm contemplating a weekend get-away with my husband in New York City (we've never been there). We love theater and would probably plan to catch a show, but otherwise . . .
1. Recommendations of good, affordable hotels/inns??
2. Other must see attractions??

NYC is awesome! Spend the extra $$ and stay in one of the many wonderful hotels in mid-town Manhattan. Check out Expedia.com or other travel websites for more info. You can take the subway to wherever you need to go. A ride-all-day pass is about $7-10. You can also take a taxi, more $$ but they are everywhere. We once stayed out in NJ, which was cheaper, and drove in to the city every day - big mistake! Terrible traffic, tolls on the bridges, parking difficult to find and very expensive. Save yourself alot of headaches by staying in mid-town. You'll also be closer to Times Square, a must-see, especially at night. Many theatres are in walking distance. If you can get tickets, go see "Wicked". It is a fantastic show! Also, try to go to the former World Trade Center site - Ground Zero. It is incredibly moving. You might also like to try a midnight dinner cruise on the rivers around lower Manhattan. They go out past the Statue of Liberty. The views of the city are breathtaking. For a great NYC hot dog, try Gray's Papaya on the corner of Broadway and 72nd St. There's a subway stop right next to it. Then walk a few blocks east to Central Park. Central Park is huge - we loved the area around Bethesda Fountain and the Mall. Popular tourist attractions like the Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island tour, Rockefeller Center tour are also excellent. You can buy tickets online ahead of time for many attractions. There are so may other great things to see and do. Planning is key!! Have fun!!

OK many hotels in NYC are really really tiny. The last time we went we stayed at the Best Western Hospitality House. It was a two bedroom apartment (they also have one bedrooms). We had a full kitchen, dining area, living area, and bedroom. They also stock your fridge everyday with bagels, juice, cereal, etc.
I have stayed in many hotels and I was REALLY surprised with how nice and affordable this was. Especially compared to other places I had stayed iN NYC where i paid a lot more for a lot less.
Oh ya and if you are looking for great tours google levy tours new york. They did and awesome tour and it is a personal tour- so no big group and you see what you want.

Hi H.!
I lived in NYC in 1999-2000 and highly recommend the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA). I wasn't really an art fan, but some friends took me there and I was hooked! I hear they've done some major renovations since then, and I know it would be at the top of my list of things to see. Have a great trip!

It's cheezy, but go up the Empire State Building if it's a nice day. Beautiful views of the city and it's fun. I also love visits to Central Park and eating good food. I've never been to the Statue of Liberty though I hear it's cool. I also hear that the Museum of Natural History is great. We visit friends who live in Manhatten every other year and they always show us a good time. If you can hook up with someone local who can suggest some places, I would definitely do that.

We've been to NYC alot. We've always done priceline and have stayed at the really nice hotels. We really liked the embassy suites, becauase there is a great free breakfast and free hour of happy hour! we did the 2 day gray line tour - it was awesome. The price includes all your entrance fees to places like empire state, statue of liberty and ellis island. the bus drops you off and you can get off or stay on. there is no time limit because a new bus comes by every 15 minutes. We stood in line at TKTS one time because you can get theatre tickets for half off. The following time we just paid full price so we didn;t waste time in line. Have a great time. It is such an awesome city!
