So What Happened?

Well mamas, today I did it! I visited Shelley, thanks Jennifer, and she was great. I didn't really know what to expect but she was great. I felt totally and completely comfortable. I think we even hit it off talking the whole time.

I give her a big thumbs up!

As for my wax well I feel 'clean' and 'neat'.

Thanks to all of you mamas for your input.

A "brazilian wax" is where they get 'everything'! Many nice salons offer this. i had one done years ago in L.A. and the pain was worth it! It was great! The only annoying part is when the hair starts to really grow back...itchy itchy itchy!! It lasts a couple of weeks...
good luck!

Just go for the bikini area the 1st time and see what you think. It is sort of painful, take Advil or Tylenol about 30 minutes before you go, it'll lessen the pain. Try an Aveda Spa I know there's one in Colleyville and one in Arlington. Also I have this stuff I picked up at Target or Walmart called Bikini Zone, it's a gel you use after you shower and before bed & it really cuts down on ingrown hairs/breakouts. If you decide you like it then try the underarms you get a lot less irritation especially in the summer.

I've been getting a Brazilian for several years---my husband loves it and I do, too. I'm a pharmacist and I recommend a couple of aspirin 30 minutes to an hour before. It will lessen the pain and is really more effective than Tylenol or Advil for the temporary sunburn-like reaction on the skin (goes away in about an hour). If you're doing this for a special event, do it a day or two before. If you're in the Houston area, definitely go to Jennifer at Beautique in Rice Village. She's very quick---about 10 minutes for the whole taco (pun intended).

Hi! I had this done one time. I did a brazilian. It was EXTREMELY painful but quick. I went to the Deja Vu salon in Hurst because they had a special. The place was kind of seedy but the people were very nice. The girl who did it had already done 8 that day and it was only noon so I guess it's pretty popular. I liked it when it was done. Hope this helps!

underarms-loved to do it just before a trip. so nice to have no stubble. any area starts growing back in 5-7 days- but, it is a slow process. the more you wax, the thinner the area becomes permanently. you can also laser the area if you love it- doing my underarms currently. with laser, you go once a month for 5-7 sessions. as far as pain, yes neither feels good. but, it is so quick & done before you know it. have about 5-7 days growth after waxing. too little & the wax cannot attach to hair & too long & they need to triml. good luck!

I find this practice very painful. All I can say is to make sure the hair growth is short before the wax. I have had a few bad experiences with waxes. Once I had part of my skin taken off with the wax, (on my lower leg, thankfully).

I go to Sutera Spa in Flower Mound and see Kimberly or Cheryl. They will ask how much you would like to be waxed. They will keep each side even so when you decide you have had enough you won't be uneven. The first time is hard but it gets better, take ibuprofen before your appointment and you will be fine. :)

I get a wax and my best advice is too have a glass of wine when you get there or before you go. It will help you relax. I am always okay doing 1 side then I get tired of the pain and the 2nd side seems to hurt more. I have found a glass of wine takes the edge off. I go to a place in Frisco (Its at Legacy and Lebanon) I can't remember the name but I see a girl named Helen. She is amazing. If this is your first don't be surprised if you are irriated afterwards and get really red. Some people experience little tiny pimple like bumps for about 24 hours after. Its all normal. Its worth the pain though.

Just use LOTS of good quality lotion after you go. Something like Eucerine. It helps get rid of the pimples one of the other moms said you get. I also use a product by Lab Series for men called Razor Burn Relief Ultra. You can get it at Dillards and it's not that expensive. A little bit of it goes a long way. If I use that and some Eucerine I don't get the rash at all. I don't know if they have other products like this at other stores or not. I have never looked for them, but you might try checking other stores before you go for a similar product. It's well worth it I think.

I haven't had one recently and I would say, just do the bikini... it is a rather painful event. And I always get bumps and pimples for days afterwards. It lasts quite a while. At least 4 weeks, if not longer.

A friend did laser bikini and she said it hurt like crazy but she wanted it gone forever. Just the bikini area, not all of it. She said it was worth the pain and the $.

I think a lot of depends on who you go to and what kind of wax they use. Jennifer or Stacey, Where is Shelly located? I'm always looking. I haven't found a local person that I really like yet.

some tips:
-to try to avoid ingrown hairs, use a scrub (like apricot or salt) for a while after the wax.
-keep well moisturized with a good lotion like they mentioned to lessen the pimples
-if you are going somewhere beachy or a romantic occasion, get this done at least 4 - 5 days ahead because you will most likely be sore or broken out at first
-if you let it grow back, don't be surprised if you get some ingrown hairs
-and I do recommend the bikini first before going "all the way" (but get an extended bikini)

I'm interested in finding a good person in Frisco if you know of anyone let me know :o)

Hi. I went to ULTA off of 635 and MacArthur. I got the Brazillian Wax and I believe it was around $60.00. I would say that it lasted I believe a month. The exprerience was different but I enjoyed the after effects. Hope this helps.
