I have to buy a new washer and dryer and was just wondering if anyone loved or hated theirs. I've never bought one before, but I know word of mouth is the best research. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I ended up buying a Kenmore 700 series set. I don't really care for the front loading washers. And after doing laundry at my mother-in-laws for 2 weeks I decided I don't like the new high efficiency sets. They just take way too long for a cycle. Thank you for all the advice!

My husband works for a major store in the appliance department, and his advise is: LG is the best, next is MayTag. He does not recommend GE. Buy a dryer with a humidity sensor or control, you will save energy. Lots of luck!

I love my Kitchenaid. I used to have a front-loader, thought they were supposed to be so great, but found out I didnt like it at all. You cant open the washer to add anything and ours got a funky smell so we had to leave the door open so it would dry inside. When we sold our house I gladly left the appliances with the house.

I absolutely love my frontloader "Duet" by Whirlpool. It washes faster and cleaner, uses less soap and water and no waiting for the water to fill up before it starts. I bought mine for less because it had minor scratches on the front of the machine, which were buffed out easily. It also has a child lock on it that you can set up the machine to do so no accidents occur. I bought mine at Appliance Direct. I even wash my dry clean only type things in it because it is so gentle. Oh, I love it. Makes a chore easier, in my opinion. The spin cycle is so fast the first time I used it, I could have sworn the clothes felt dry. I can add midload,np. I have used reg. detergent, with no problem, just use way less. It washes my bedclothes great. Good luck!

Regards,

T. A. P.S. I did a Consumers Report research before I bought my machines. They took the guess work out for me!!

We recently got the Frigidaire front loading set from Lowes and it is great. It uses so little water and seems very efficient. Our drying time is fast. We did get the pedestals with them and it gives some great storage space and eliminates any bending over which is nice. Lowes also does the one year same as cash deal which is nice. Good luck.

A few months ago we bought Kennmore Elite Oasis washer and dryer. A bit more than I wanted to pay about $1400 for the pair / but we put them on our Sears charge at 0% for 1 year and let me just say I LOVE THEM!! I used to do laundry every day and now I can do a weeks worth in one day. They are fast, efficient and quiet. I could never part with either of them. Hope this helps. K.

I live in a condo, so I needed a stackable washer and dryer. I bought the Frigidair Affinity set. They are front loading and I absolutely love them. When I eventually move into a bigger house, I will definitely take these with me and just unstack them if room provides. They are super quiet, have a sanitizing function (which is great with allergies or "bugs" the kids bring home with them) and so far they work great. My electric bill is a little bit lower, and the clothes just "feel and smell" so much cleaner. I put one load in without detergent when I first bought them. You can't imagine the left over suds that came out of my clothes from using the old machine (they didn't rinse all the way out). Also it keeps my daughter occupied every once in awhile....she watches the clothes spin....and its a trip to watch the cat batt at the washer door chasing a sock or something.

I have the Maytag Legacy Series and LOVE them. They were very reasonably priced (I couldn't justify spending a small fortune on the front loading LG series) and both W & D have stainless steel tubs and super size capacity. Multiple settings and nice looking machines. I am pretty much a Maytag brand W/D for life kind of girl!

Hi, I absolutely, positively HATE, HATE my High Efficiency front loading machine!!!! It's a Maytag Neptune. I really like the features of the washer (and I LOVE the dryer) other than the front load which never dries and therefore can develop a funky smell and weird fabric remnants. The HE laundry soap that is required is a total pain! I think it's a lot of extra work to keep it clean and not smelling bad. Also, it drives me insane that I can't open the door after a certain amount of time (logically it makes sense) but I'm used to being able to throw in a few items I might have forgotten etc. Good Luck.

I recently bought an LG front loading washer/dryer set and even though its supposed to be great on saving water and stuff, I liked my old top loaders better. Mainly because it takes so much longer to wash and dry the clothes. I used to be able to do laundry quickly, now it takes almost an hour to wash and almost that long to dry them. And when I bought the things I was never told about high efficiency detergent, and when I came home with my Tide, a friend said oh you cant use that! But I do, I just use hald the amount. That being said, they are nice appliances and I havent had any problems with them.

I have a front-loading washer by Frigidaire, it's wonderful, and was very reasonably priced at Lowes. Our clothes are lasting so much longer; there is no fading or wear from washing. There is hardly any lint in our dryer because the clothes are treated so gently. And we've saved $ on water and detergent, since its so efficient.

We've had no problem with odor in the machine, like some other posts have mentioned about front-loaders. And you can still add clothes mid-cycle if you pause it first, it's very simple. I can't recommend this machine enough :)

We bought our set from Famous Tate (great service) and have not had any problems with it (3 years ago.) It's a Frigidaire Gallery (not the cheapest and not the most expensive.) I really like the size of it and the dryer actually dries on the first cycle. It also has one of those racks for the dryer so that you can dry sweaters or sneakers without tumbling, too.

Hi T., If your looking for a super capacity washer that you can was comforters and such in without having to go to a laundry mat, we invested in the Kenmore Elite and we love it. But then again we also have a large family.

We have had a couple of different models of front load washers and I would never go back to a top load. Moving items from washer to dryer is so much easier and I can get more in the front load units. We currently have the Maytag which does give you the ability to open the door to add items if you need to.
