My soon to be one year (this week) has been vomiting since 11pm Friday night. It is now Sunday evening. Saturday he also starting with the diarrhea. He seemed like he was getting better so I let him have some of his formula today and he he threw it up but he kept his cheerios down earlier in the day. He can keep water down ok too. Should I give him one more day or call the doctor. I don't think there is much that can be done for a virus.

What can I do next?

My son had the same thing. I think it was a stomach virus. I used a medicine called emetrol. You can get it from any drugstore. It helped. Its for nausea and vomiting. Hope he gets better!!

Call the doctor and ask their opinion - they'll let you know if it is best to way a day more or bring him in immediately. Also, make sure he is getting plenty of pedialite - it will restore the lost electrolytes from the vomiting and diarrhea and will help so he does not get dehydrated.

Good luck and God bless!

What kind of formula? Maybe something wrong w/ that.
Get pedilite for sure, diarrhea &vomiting can leave littles ones, esp dehydrated.
best, k

Give tiny amounts at a time. The stomach has shrunk down. Do not start with formula. Maybe a homemade frozen juice treat.

Keep him hydrated, maybe with some popsicles or anything else you can think of that he will take and hopefully keep down. Sounds like the flu bug. Just keep offering it and make sure you are getting wet diapers. You are very correct that you cant do anything for virals, just tlc and time.

I'd give the doctor a call. Dehydration is a concern. Also, when my oldest was 6 months old he started vomiting and was unable to keep anything down. The pediatrician had us take him to urgent care and they gave him a shot for the nausea. Cleared the vomiting right up. Then we were giving him Pedialyte to rehydrate him. I hope your precious little one feels better soon.

Your concern should be dehydration. It is true you just have to ride out a virus but without a doc checking him out you don't even know if it is a virus. You need to call the Pediatrician on call now and get some direction and ask if it is ok to wait until tomorrow. He/she may ask you to run up to Urgent Care and get some fluids for him. It is worth the call, that is a long time to be throwing up.

Good luck!

It takes them a little bit to get back around to the milk products. We have given ours electrolyte solutions, such as pedialyte, and weak chamomile tea when they have had stomach bugs, then worked our way into crackers, toast, dry cereal, chicken noodle soup, etc. If he can keep down water, try pedialyte, broth and anything else liquid based he will drink. When mine had vomiting when they were very small, we would mix the formula weak (one scoop per 8 ounces) and possibly switch to the Nutramigen formula for a few days just to make it easier to keep down.

Definitely call the doctor. This is very dangerous in such a young child. He may be severely dehydrated and may need IVs to feed him. They can also give him something for the vomiting through the IV. This happened to my daughter, and her doctor made us take her to the ER. Unfortunately I do not remember what they gave her via IV to treat her vomiting, but it worked.
