Updo Suggestions for Father Daughter Dance

Any ideas ladies? My daughter has long, thick hair and tomorrow night is going to be pouring rain. She really wants to look special and I want to help. I have a feeling that the minute she steps out into that humidity, we're going to have a teeny Rosanne Rosannadanna on our hands. Any ideas and suggestions for styles would be much appreciated. Thanks everyone in advance.

I have long, thick, wavy hair. If I need it to look nice in humidity, I usually do a braided up-do. If I were you, I'd go to pinterest and look up up-dos.

Pinterest has a ton of suggestions, just pull them up with your daughter and let her pick.

A lot of looks can be jazzed up with a simple sparkley hair do-hicky too.

Good luck!

you don't say how old your daughter is and it doesn't say on your profile. i just wanted to say if your daughter is young (younger than say junior high age) I would skip the updo. a pretty braid or pull it up on the sides and top to make a half pony tail half down type look with some pretty ribbons or flowers. the little girls run and dance at the daddy daughter things and an updo is going to fall almost immediatly. better to wait for prom for that type of hairdo

I would suggest to your daughter that she ask daddy how he likes her hair. I would suggest that you talk with your husband first and have him say something simple like a braid or a barrette etc. making these type things all out is how we end up with $2000 prom nights.

the special should be having the night with daddy. and that can happen with pig tales and a pretty dress.

My 6 y/o just had her father daughter dance and she too has thick hair down to her butt. Originally I was going to pull all of her hair up and make a bow out of her ponytail BUT she decided she wanted it down, side bangs and curls on the bottom and sparkle hairspray that we had left over from Halloween! The "hair bow" is actually super cute and super easy, here's the video I used to learn how to do it, she will look like a million bucks!! good luck!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MWqyGtzclQ

BTW if you use ALOT of hairspray, it should stay put, humidity and all!

Does it have to be an up-do? My daughter has very thick hair as well, and she just came home with a really pretty braid her friend did for her at school today. It's like a French braid started on the one side around to the back and then goes into a normal braid as you come around to the front on the other side. Or can you do just a normal French braid? I'm not good at them but they always look very pretty.

As for an up-do - my daughter always just twists her hair and then holds it up with the hair ties. It looks really pretty because of the different color hair ties that she can match to her outfit. She also uses these "pins" that look like cork screws - amazing how they hold up the hair - she just bought them at a dollar store the other night and they work beautifully!!

As for the rain - use hair spray!!! I've been dealing with frizz all my life and it's a pain in the butt - I can't tell you how many times I've looked like Rosanna Rosannadanna!! lol!!

Good luck!! I hope she has lots of fun!

Make an appointment at the hairdresser. They know best and have lots of tricks up their sleeves to keep a hairdo in place.

I suggest you do something along the lines of a high ponytail with long curls going down the sides and back. If the pony tail is high enough/forward enough the tendrils will go to the sides AND the back.

This would be easy and could be quick. You can spray a hairbrush with hairspray and then brush her hair into the ponytail. Once it's nice and pretty you take the hair in the pony tail and just curl small sections with a curling iron or put small sections up in hot rollers. Spray it with a heat activated spray so it will curl very well.

Finger brush the curls out when it cools completely down. Spray it nicely and be done. The ponytail can have a flower in front or a small tiara. Wrap the ponytail holder with a small section of hair so it looks like part of the hair.
