C.C. asks from Dulles, VA

This is a weird question, but I'm not sure where else to go to ask. I have a ceramic Mother Mary night light statue that plugs into the wall in my daughters bedroom. Over the past few months I have found it unplugged around 4 times. It is plugged in behind a bookshelf that is really hard to get to, which makes it weird that it is unplugged. What should I make of this? At first I was getting a little freaked out, but then I was thinking that maybe it is my grandfather trying to contact me? Has anyone ever experienced something like this. I don't even know where to start to get some answers.

Just to answer some questions - the bookshelf is way too heavy for my daughter to get behind and move to unplug the night light. It's actually hard for me to move. There is a cd player plugged in above the night light plug, so I would think we would have the same problem with that unplugging if it was the bookshelf banging into it. One thing it could possibly be is the plug coming loose every couple of weeks. I tried to pay attention to that between the last two times, but I will check it everyday now. As far as my hubby is concerned he seems as freaked out as me. He wants to set up a nanny cam. LOL! He said another weird thing happened yesterday - when he got out of the shower he noticed the toilet paper from the roll was unrolled and dipped into the toilet (no one else was home). Could be a coincidence...or have another explanation? Who knows!

So What Happened?

I think I may have been watching too many episodes of Ghost Adventures and Ghost Hunters and got a little freaked out when there was a simple explanation. The plug is loose in the socket. We plan on changing it out. Thanks for the help! I loved the freaky stories out there.

By the way - Mary is not behind the bookcase. The plug is. Mary is a 12 inch ceramic statue and very beautiful. I would never "keep her" behind a bookcase.

Try plugging in another item and see if it also comes loose. If so, the outlet is worn and faulty. The outlet probably needs to be replaced.

WEIRD!!! I love stories like this. I would try a different night light or a different spot in the room before I started jumping to conclusions of paranormal communications. Since it happens so infrequently, maybe the bookshelf gets shook; therefore, shaking the nighlight loose.

Hi. I love stories like that (if they end happy :P). Have a couple of my own, but I won't go into them. There is a site called cafemom.com. It's like mamasource, but it has moms from all over. They have different forums you can go to. I am a member of the psyhic realm. They have ladies on there that can do reading and such. They are pretty good. I've posted a couple times, but you just post a picture of yourself or whatever, then your question, and they try to help you. I hope you check it out. It really is amazing how good the ladies are. And yes its free.

Christa: I've had weird stuff happen too. But 1st check out the plug as others have said. Mother Mary may be trying to tell you about a fire hazard. Then move her - she deserves to be seen since you seem to be a person of faith that would have her in your home in the first place. Next - if you are unsure of what's going on - you can "clear" your own house - it doesn't take a professional. I did it to mine. Simply bless some olive oil or water. Pray over it with the rosary or the Lord's prayer. Then while walking through your house make the sign of the cross on every door and window while saying the lord's prayer. I then went back through the house with a smudge stick (sage and sweet grass) burning and spoke out loud for any spirit dwelling there to move on - that they had passed away - they needed to leave my home. I spoke to one by name who I suspected from the seller's stories was the one still there. Move quickly with the smudge stick cos that smoke is strong and hangs around. The next day when I arrived home from work - my house had a totally different feeling. It was like some funk had gone away. About 2 weeks later a weird thing happened. A high speed police chase ended behind my house. For the car thieves to get there - they had to rocket off the road, through my yard, past my whole house, and back yard, coming to rest in the woods at the bottom of a drop off on my lawn I called "the cliff". It was literally a ravine at the back of my property that I've only ever climbed down once or twice. Seven police cars surrounding my yard with lights and sirens going and a stolen car with 4 criminals bailing out and running through my woods - k-9 units. Me and my dog slept through much of it and it was right outside my bedroom window.I only awoke when my neighbor knocked on my door to check and see if I was scared - HE woke me and my dog up - not the goings on. The next day when I checked the tire tracks they were less than 1 foot from the corner of my house (AT the site of my gas line and meter) then they missed my deck by inches. If they had stopped anywhere on the way - they could have been inside my house catching me and my dog sleeping - but that didn't happen either. It only made sense to me when I was at church on Easter a few days later - when they talked about Passover. How the doors were anointed with blood so the killing fog would passover those homes of the faithful. My AHA moment - I had created my own passover. I felt that because I had blessed my house and declared it sacred ground and that it was a house of God - tragedy had passed me by. That whole night could have gone so differently - but God protected me because I had blessed my house! sorry for the long post - but it was so incredible I just had to share it!!! S.

I love stories like this, too. But I would do what everybody else has said. Plug it in elsewhere, and see if it happens. And if your home is older, it could be the outlet. You may need to upgrade the whole house, which may be expensive, but a lot safer than having an old electrical system.

I'd call an electrician and rule that out. If it is a faulty plug that could be VERY dangerous. We're talkin' fire in the middle of the night. Just in case, in the meantime, make sure your smoke detectors have good batteries and review the escape plan. Seriously, I'm no electrician, but I'm sure it's possible for a bad outlet to reject a plug, and for it to take awhile.

As for the TP, do you have animals? A cat maybe? Was there a draft? eek.

Good luck and don't put off the electrician! Could really be a safety thing!

Oh my Gosh, my whole family has explained weird things like this and we're "normal." My sister and her husband bought an old house on the Eastern Shore of Maryland from an old woman whose husband had just died, and she was going into a nursing home. So many strange things have happened to them--she has seen a man out of the corner of her eye from time to time that resembles a picture of the man that built the house. Her husband will go looking for things, like a tool he needs, and all of a sudden there it is out of no where, right where he needs it (and he is the most cynical person I know!). My grandmother, who I adored, died 2 months after my first child was born, and things happened in his room all the time--nightlight would go on after I turned them off, and stuffed animals that I would take out of his crib at bedtime and put across the room would be back in the crib when I went to check on him. Who knows, but none of it was ever scary or seemed malicious. I think sometimes people who have passed away might try and leave you little messages so you think about them. Don't stress.

Hey Christa, I could probably tell you some stories (the most recent about a year ago) that would make all the hairs on your body stand on end!! It actually all started with my 3 1/2 year old, (2 1/2 at the time), seeing someone sitting in the recliner chair in our living room!! I was just sitting on the couch putting on my makeup and he was playing and then looked at the recliner (as if he REALLY saw someone sitting there) and asked me, "who's that mommy"? I was like, "who's who", I didn't see anyone sitting there. He said, "that man". I said, "I don't see anyone, do you"? Then my son turned around to play again, turned back around and said, "Johnny B is gone now". He even gave me the name of the man!! The whole situation kinda freaked me out, so later in the afternoon I e-mailed my mother in law and told her what happened. I was very non-chalant and at the end of my e-mail was like, "Ya, so now I'm left wondering who this Johnny B. person is and if he's going to come see us again). Here's the part that will give you chills. My MIL calles me and tells me that she knows who he is!! It was the nickname of her father! All of his close buddies called him Johnny B! It was a nick name so I did not recognize it. (Truthfully, I don't think I would have recognized it anyway because he died many years ago and my MIL only refers to him as "my dad" when she is telling stories, etc.). I had already called my husband earlier at work that day and shared the story with him (he didn't even know who Johnny B was) and ,idk, he's so funny about that sort of thing. Then, I called him back after his mom and I spoke. Even with all the new info I gave him, I STILL don't think he was convinced!! Well, that evening when he was pulling into our driveway 2 of our car alarms started going off as he was walking to the front door. At first I thought one of my kids (or my childcare kids) had a set of my keys and pushed a button, but after checking and everyone was empty handed, I looked in our foyer area and all the keys were hanging by the front door where they belonged. That had NEVER happened before. My husband came into the house with a smirk and I think he was starting to see things a little more clearly and was convinced that something was going on at that point. The next day my son ended up in the hospital (VERY SICK) from an allergic reaction to an antibiotic (that he had taken at least 12 times before). He developed this bad "rash" and swelling that affected all his joints from his elbows to his toes, and caused him terrible pain. At first they thought he had Rheumatoid Arthritis. He was so bad he couldn't even lift a sippy cup to his mouth. He didn't even have the strength to sit himself up in the bed for a week. He was on pain meds, and in the bed for about 9 days. Missed Trick or Treating last year. I'm not saying that the "visit" from Johnny B. was anything but coincidental, but sometimes I wonder if he knew his great grandson was getting sick and came to see him. Just a thought. We have had other things that involve Tv's, and lights, foot steps, and a baby crying downstairs. Both my oldest daughter and I have heard the baby. So, do I think it COULD be something else with your Mary nightlight? Maybe. But as everyone else has recommended, just check the plug to see if it's a tight fit. If so, Maybe Mary is trying to tell you something! LOL Thanks for sharing and thanks for listening. B.

Cool! I have stories that you would probably love to hear! LOL! I would try plugging it into another plug just to see what happens, but that doesn't necessarily give you any answers. You could also try plugging something different into that outlet as well. I don't see the harm in feeling that it is your grandfather saying hi. Is this a new house? How long have you lived in it, and how long ago did your grandfather pass away?

First I'd consider if it is the bookshelf hitting against it over time causing it to come unplugged.

If you feel that it is paranormal, you could try doing some EVP's (electronic voice phenomenon). Sit down in the room and ask who is unplugging the lamp. You never know.

There are some paranormal forums you can go to for more help. TAPS has one and if you do a Google Search you can find one you would like that can help.

Hi Christa! There are alot of unexplain things that can happen, I've experinced a lot of them, but the good book says we should not try to communicate with dead. ( I assume your thinking ghosts, spirits, or something.) It doesn't say that it is impossible to do so but that we should not do it. So I would not recommed trying to get outside help. One possibilty, I don't know if you checked on this yet, is maybe tere is something wrong with wiring. Not that it causing the light to fall out, but that the light falling out is to draw your attention to the outlet. There may be something going on behind the wall that you need to check on. If it is your grandfather maybe he trying to "tell" you about the problem. Again I would look into there being a problem with the outlet/wiring and not try to cmmunicate with your grandfather. I hope this helps. Good luck!

Maybe Mary doesnt like being behind the bookshelf..Some would say you have fairies...or poltergeists...I would cleanse my whole house with the smoke of Sage, and ask all negative enities and energies to peacefully leave and be recycled into the universe or healed by the earth..such timing with your request, with Hallo's Eve coming in a week...history says it is the one time of the year that the dead can walk with the living....ooooooouuuu!

Hi,
I would suggest setting up a camera in that room pointing to the area to see if you see anyone physically come unplug it. If nobody does, maybe you can catch your grandpa coming to visit. I believe in this. Look up The Atlantic Paranormal Society, (T.A.P.S). We watch their show all the time and it really makes me believe. Good luck!
