My daughter is having twins, after having gastric bypass surgery. Has anyone delivered a child after this surgery? Also, what are tips for organizing with twin newborns?

What can I do next?

I never had gastric bypass surgery, BUT I am a mother to 4 1/2 yr old triplets and also president of the Monroe County Mothers of Multiples. Which is a support group for mothers of twins, triplets and more. I have been part of this group since I was 4 months pregnant with the triplets and it was God sent. Getting involved with a group when you are pregnant is the best thing you can do. This way you can build some relationships before the babies come and people you dont know are offering help. What city/state is your daughter in? I can help you find her local group if she is in Michigan or if she is out out state (or in MI for that matter) you can go to www.nomotc.org (National Organization of Mothers of Twins Clubs) and down the right hand side is a place to put her zip code to find her local club. Good Luck and Congratulations.

Also, when you purchase bouncy seats and such I would suggest getting two different models. Double the toys, so when they get bored with one you just switch. :)

Hello.
I have not had the surgery, but I am the mother of soon to be 6 year old twins. Mine were born 8 weeks premature, so the hospital instituted a pretty nice schedule for me. Once they were home, if one would wake in the night to eat, I would wake the other one at the same time so they would be on the same schedule. Mine also had an issue with pooping and without a chart or a mark on the calender, I could not keep the poop with the correct baby straight. Organization is key. Dont put off doing it until they are born, do it now. Lots of diapers and burp cloths. Those bouncy chairs worked well too. If you have any other questions you can email me.... ____@____.com

I don't know about the gastric bypass, but as far as organizing with twins, advice is to try to get them on the same schedule...ie feed and sleep at the same time (or at least pretty close to each other.)

Before my twins I was not a routine person, but with twins, I kept them and a schedule, especially at when they were first born, because it made things easier. When my twins were young I had to feed one first and then the other, but once they could hold their bottles, they ate at the same time.

Another tip, if she doesn't have them already, I would get her two bouncy seats, the ones that vibrate are especially nice. They take up less space than a swing and are a good way to interact with both children at the same time without having to hold both. Our daughter had reflux and for the first couple months, she slept in a bouncy seat to keep her more upright and she didn't spit up as much.

My mother had two travel swings at her house that they used because they could fold up and were smaller than a full sized swing.

When they were old enough to start crawling around, we got a outdoor play yard, and used it as sort of a corral. I have heard of many mothers of multiples using them this way.

Good luck, Gramma, you are gonna enjoy them very much!

I have 8 month old twins and at first she will need all the help that she can get. They say the first 4 months are the hardest. But you just want to try and keep everything organized, a list of who eat when and how much and was changed really helps out. It also helps when the doctor asks questions you can turn to your list and you don't have to guess. She is more than welcome to emial me with any questions. I have learned a lot with trail and error. My email is ____@____.com luck and Congulatoins!

I have not had the surgery, but I have just had twin girls a month ago. Organizing is the key. You need to have a place for everything and make sure it is easily accessible. Lots of diapers, you need lots of diapers get them now. I thought I had enough before they were born and I did not. I have 2 other children that were both single births and I go through more diapers with the twins then I did with them. You also have to keep everything organized as you go. I have fallen behind for the momnet because I did not keep up on it. If I think of anything else I will let you know, But I am still learning myself and I am also open for suggestions.

I have three year old twins. I didn't have the surgery though. I'm not sure where your daughter lives, but there are some pretty good twin mother support groups out there. Or, she can always email me with any questions she might have. I loved having the twins, I love being a mom. It is more work than having one child, but you can survive it. Give her my email address, ____@____.com.
