Tubal Ligation - Beaver Falls,PA

I had my tubes tied at Megee womens hospital in 97 an decided in 04 i really wanted another baby,so I had them untied in 04 after having my Daughter in 07 I had so many problems that i retied them oct 08. I did all 3 at Megee an was up an about next day no problems an no pain what so ever.I would really think about it before you do it,myself when i had mine done i was young an really thought i'd never want another child, Boy was i ever so wrong.If you really decide this is what you decide i would recommend Megee.

I haven't read any of the responses, but I had a procedure done at Magee that I highly recommend for permanent birth control. It's called the Essure procedure, and it's basically creating a physical blockage in your fallopian tubes so that the eggs don't come out. It's non-surgical, although you do have to have it done as an outpt because it involves light sedation. When I was pregnant with my 3rd my hubby and I realized that 3 would be plenty, but he refused to even mention the "V" word. I was prepared to go through with the tubal, but when I mentioned it to my OB he told me about the Essure. Insurance paid for almost all of it, there was only slight cramping (like menstrual or gas cramps) the next day, and I even went back to work the next day. If you really want something permanent, I'd recommend asking about this. I had a tubal with my c-section at age 37 with my first and only child. Now, looking back as my son is 20 months old, if I would not have had it done I would be pregnant with a second child. I do regret having it done but it is done. We were thinking of a reversal but there are too many negatives and low chances and then I had medical complications and had an endometrial ablation this past August so now I will never have more. Just be sure this is what you want because it is a major surgery. I had more pain after my c-section from the tubal and my periods were HORRIBLE after. So, good luck but just think about it really hard first.

I had a tubal after my son was born (in 2000). If I knew then what I know now, I would NOT have had it done. I would have had my husband get a vasectomy instead. The recovery wasn't bad but since then every mid-cycle, I have had excruciating pain in the ovary that releases the egg and it lasts 1-3 days. I have done research on it since I had it done and my symptoms are mild compared to alot of other women. Some of their symptoms are actually life changing (major mood swings, major bleeding, body aches and pains etc.).

If I was you I would definitely do research into the tubal and other choices you have before making the right decision for you.

I am not sure if you tried an IUD or not yet. They last up to ten years. I think that is a great alternative to surgery. Plus, it isn't permanant, which I know you want know but things may change. Worse case scenario, you just have to go through a few before you hit menopause.
Or I would recommend your husband having a vasectomy. I know a few men that had it with zero problems. Seems like much less side effects that the TL.

If you are looking for permanent sterilization, your husband should consider a vasectomy. It's much faster, easier and less invasive. It also takes much less time to recover. And you don't have to worry about the hormonal changes that may come along with a tubal. Good luck with your decision.

Because of the invasive nature of a tubal ligation, I would highly recommend a vasectomy for the hubby. My husband went this route, and it was very easy on him. It was an in-office procedure, lasted about 20 min, and he was only out of work for 2 days. Sore, yes, but not unbearable. Based on recovery/down time alone, I think this is the way to go.

Hello! I also had my tubal done with my c-section of my second child so I cannot comment on recovery time. But I will say that my periods now are so heavy it is crazy. I had read they could be a little heavier but had no idea this heavy. I have to wear pads and tampons. No way will a tampon do it alone. The bleeding is so heavy and my periods are alot longer and alot more cramping. I probably still would have done it because we are done having children and I was having a c-section anyway but just a heads up on the side effects. Good Luck in whatever you decide.

Hello, I also went through the same thing...I am 30 and we just had our second child. I looked into everything and choose to get a tubel. The procedure was not difficult for me because I did it when I had my second child. I had to have a c-section and they did it then. I can't give you advice on recovery time because I do not know if it is different then when I had the c-section. I can tell you that it has been 4 mths and I don't have any complicatons or felt any different. It is alot easier than taking pills and I have heard some not so good things about the IUD...if you knwo for sure you are done, I say go for it!

Before you go through with tubal ligation (a surgical procedure) ask your doctor about Essure contraceptive implants. They take up to six months to "take", but once they do your tubes are blocked--and NO STITCHES to heal up from.

I had them put in August 2007, had to go through the HSG (not a pleasant test, but still beat recovering from surgery) test twice to confirm because they didn't take in three months, and have been OK since. The only problem I had was some cramping both after they were placed and after the HSG, but it wasn't much worse than my periods. They also recommend abstinence from vaginal sex both after placement and after confirmation to avoid infections.

My doctor put me under to place the implants, but some don't bother with general anesthesia. Although the confirmation test (hysterosalpingogram) isn't pleasant, at least I didn't have a surgery recovery.

Above all, make sure you want to be PERMANENTLY sterilized before you go through either procedure. These procedures should be considered irreversible.

I am a nurse and a grandmother of 2. I had a tubal and the recovery was basically nothing. They do it through the bellybutton which is a little sore for a few days. I think the worse thing is the anesthesia which isn't bad either. But, let me tell you, if you are done having children it is the best way to prevent pregnancy. Or, your husband can go in for the quickie vasectomy and save you the effort?????????

The tubal ligation is when the doctor cuts your fallopian tubes, burn the ends and then tie them. I was told that this procedure is 99.9% effective in preventing further pregnancies. I am a mother of 3 children ages 8, 3 and 19 months. I had a tubal ligation done 19 months ago after having my third child. Since I had a c-section with my third child, I had the tubal done at the same time. Because I did it this way, the recovery time wasn't any different than the recovery for the c-section. I do not regret the decision in any way.

Well, if you know that you are "done" with having kids then kudos to you. However to get a tubal now....well, let's just inform you on something here. Getting a tubal doesn't necessary mean Pregnancy free. In fact it's just the opposite. I was misinformed when I had mine done. Your chances of pregnant are greater (*yes -GREATER) than those that don't have a tubal done. It's definately better to get it done when you are under the knife....to do it now, I cannot tell you. I had mine done after a C-section & my fourth child. It is and was a long process to heal after *longer than normal pregnancy healing time, and there are some side effects....mine were "Ghost pains of surgery", if that makes any sense to you. Severe menstrual cramps during the month and while Aunt Flo is visiting along with heavy flo. Along with a nice pouch to carry around. So far despite the risk factors of getting pregnant...I have not-YET!(knock on wood) & sex is great.

I would say that your wonderful husband needs to be just as wonderful in this area and get a vasectomy! It is not major surgery and causes no side effects for him. He will be able to perform just as well and have the same results as before. There is no way I would have a tubal ligation based on many womens' experiences with the aftermath.

I'm not too familiar with tubal ligation. All I know, many women get it done at childbirth. How about your husband getting a vasectomy? My husband got one done on Friday morning. Had weekend to recouperate. Back to work on Monday. He took it easy that week, but handled it quite well. Not very tolerant in the pain department. What guy is!! Drugs helped with that:) I figured I gave birth to 2 babies. He can tolerate 15 mins.

Let your husband get the vasectomy. It is a far more safer surgery, recovery is much faster and it is a great form of birth control. TL has many risks. All the women I see with TL blow up like whales.

I had a tubal done at age 36 during the c-section of my fourth child. I did not want anymore children, and thought this was the smartest thing to do. After the surgery, my recovery was a little rough....however, I was bleeding all of the time following the surgery. I had horrible life altering pains and cramps....guessing this is around ovulation time? My bleeding went on pretty much continuously for 13 months! I was bleeding so heavily most days that I could not risk leaving the house....it would soak thru my clothes. After the Dr tried quadruple doses of hormones, which did not work, and only succeeded in causing me weight gain! they decided I needed another surgery...a different outpatient procedure. The Doctor's response to all of this was, "well, this does tend to happen to a small percentage of women after having a tubal ligation..it's not all that uncommon". Well, had I known any of this beforehand? I'd have never risked having it done! I blame myself for not doing my research/homework prior to the procedure....I listened to my Dr. and thought I was doing something "smart" since I didn't want any more kids. I still have heavy painful messed up periods every month...this is now 6 years later! I would never do it again...knowing what I do now.

your husand could also have a vasectomy. it is easier for the man and the recovery time is only a few days. I have not had a tubal ligation but i heard it is not too bad.

Have you thought about using an IUD device, Mirena, until you get through the changes of having 2 small ones under your feet?

Just wanted you to think about an alternative before you took this giant step.
