I had a dnc on 9/14/06. I finally got my period yesterday. How long should I wait until I ttc again? Has anyone been in my situation recently?

So What Happened?

I did get pregnant after Christmas but I lost the baby again at 15 weeks. So I am waiting for some test results to come back and then I will try again.

Hi L.,

I would say go ahead and try after this cycle. This happened to me also. I had a miscarraige and a d/c but I never got my period, I was already pregnant...so , most obs suggest waiting 2-3 cycles before trying again, but I think it is ultimetly up to you. I am studying midwifery right now and an a childbirth educator and in the process of becoming a certified doula, so birth is my passion...hope this helps let me know ...

Most Doctors recommend waiting through one menstrual cycle before ttc again.

Before my last daughter Ayana was born, I had miscarried at around 8 weeks and was devastated. Honestly, once the bleeding was done, my husband and I did not use protection and I became pregnant before having a normal period. Probably not the smartest thing to do, but I was blessed having a healthy little girl.
I wish you the best. Losing the first pregnancy was very tough on me. I still think about it often.

It all depends on your doc. I had one midwife tell me we could start trying again (I had a miscarriage Sept 23) after my first period. I had another tell me wait until after my 3rd. It all depends on what you and your body are ready for.

I miscarried my first pregnancy. I didn't need a dnc though. My OBGYN told me I needed to wait 3 months before I should try again in order to let my body heal. After the three months my husband and I tried for about a year with no luck of getting pregnant. I believe that even though my body healed I emotionally didn't right off, and I truely believe that had something to do with why it took so long for me to get pregnant again. I wasn't able to return to a more relaxed lifestyle until about the year later when I did become pregnant again.

I had a dnc myself, and i was told to wait at least 6 months to allow your body to heal. It sounds like a long time but it's worth it because depending on your reason for a dnc you can heal both physically and mentally, then you will be completely ready to endure 9 months of pregnancy. I ended up waiting the six months and was pregnant the 7th ... I had a really easy pregnancy with no complications.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I too have had a dnc (two accually). My 1st pregnancy was a miscarriage, 2nd was healthy, third was a miscarraige, fourth and fifth were both successful. We concieved our second child exactlly one month after my second dnc. Our dr said to wait six to eight months to try again, however my body said something else. When your body is ready and it is a healthy pregnancy it will happen on its own. Best wishes, and take care. From A. 25 yr old mother of three happy adorable children.
