Trick or Treating in the City

I was wondering where the best places are to trick or treat in the city. We live in the loop where there aren't as many children so trick or treating doesn't really happen here.

What can I do next?

Hyde Park is fun - the couple blocks around Harper Ave and 57th go all out and the street is closed off for trick or treating.

I live in the Beverly neighborhood in the SW corner of the city. There are tons of kids in my neighborhood (many homes have multiple children). Trick or treating here is great! Houses decorate and there are signs that houses get to indicate that they will be accepting trick or treaters, so you know where to go. Tree lined streets with lots and lots of kids in Beverly, Morgan Park and Mount Greenwood (all within close distance of each other).

I'd say go to a mall or some other public place.

My friend lives in one of those neighborhoods where lots of "outsiders" go and she has to buy 50 bags of candy a year to "host the event! Why should she have to treat all these people? It's nuts! It's really gotten out of hand!

Try Graceland West. Greenview between Irving Park and Montrose

I think trick or treating is really supposed to be a neighborhood thing. The people that I know who live in the loop usually have something organized in the building (or gated community or whatever) where they live, or they go to their local park district, or to shops in their area. Of course, if they have some little friends that live in the 'hoods or the 'burbs, you could talk to thier parents about organizing a little trick or treat party there.

Sometimes local businesses host (like Lincoln Square and others), malls, sometimes your Alderman (contact their office), and the Chicago Park District most certainly! Check out the CPD web site and check under "events". Have a great Halloween!

Try the Dearborn Park II development in the south loop. Its South of Roosevelt and West of State. Very safe area of townhouses and single family homes. We used to live there and got lots of trick or treaters.

If you don't mind driving a bit, my neighborhood is AWESOME for trick or treaters. I live in Edgewater. We have 3 blocks where the kids don't even have to go up to the houses, most people set up tables on the sidewalks. Most of the houses decorate, it's great. It's very, very kid friendly. There are a ton of younger kids; I think you'd have a great time. Head north on Clark and make a right on Hood, Glenlake or Norwood. You won't miss it. We even had channel 5 news do a small segment last year. It was quite exciting for the kids.

We always went to navy pier.
