My 15 month old son is very independant and loves to climb so im getting a bit concerned about having him in the cot, pretty soon he is going to be able to climb up the side and i really dont want him to fall out.
I was just wondering when a good time to tranfer your child from cot to bed is? i dont want to do it to soon but i also dont want to leave it too long either, any advise will be welcome as he is my first child and i need all the help i can get.
Best advice I ever received: Lower the crib mattress all the way as low as it can go and leave him in the crib until 3 or climbing out.
hiya K., there isn't a particular age 2 do this it's when u feel the time is ready. my eldest went in2 a bed at about 14 months as my second child was 3 months by this time and was goin in2 a cot from his moses so didnt want 2 cots on the go. my second child was roughly 1 and a half when goin in2 his bed as he ad well and truely mastered the art of climbin out from his cot and my third child who is now 18 months is stil at the mo in his cot but we r in the process of debatin 2 put him in2 a bed as he is now tryin 2 climb free lol. i hope this has helped and good luck wiv ur next step of parenthood xxx
There is no rule book on when to transfer your child from a crib to a bed. But with my kids, i'm going to keep them in there as long as i can, then i know where they are at. If you haven't lowered the crib matress yet, i would do that. Also, a friend of mine bought one of those tent attachments for the top of the crib so her kids could not climb out, you might want to look into that. Good luck!

I have a 15 yr old daughter and my plans were shot when she climbed out of her crib at 17 months. We didn't think twice about boxing that crib up then and there for safety reasons.
We had a queen matress/box spring set and we put it on the floor (no frame). She got used to it first with just the mattress then we added the box springs. Later, (year or so) we added the frame. She slept there and loved it. We also have some nice memories of family snuggles on that bed as well.
Most cribs can be converted to a toddler bed by taking off the side rail. You then add a little safety rail. I bought one on the internet. Then you are all set. The only disadvantage is that sweetie can now get in and out with all the fun that entails. My little girl could get out of her crib by 17 months and so I did the conversion. I moved her into a big girl twin bed at 2 and a half. I would certainly wait until I really had to do the conversion as once they are free, there are so many lovely challenges trying to get them to stay in bed. Good luck.
I say lower the bed as far as it will go and wait until he gets out before putting him in a bed. Believe it or not, I have never heard a horror story of a child hurting themselves while getting out of the crib, so I say, leave him in as long as he will stay in. Mine was the same way and I fully expected him to crawl out at 15 months old; he didn't crawl out until he was about 26 months old (and trust me I am SO glad I waited). Good luck!
