Tooth Fairy Rate
My 7 year old just lost his tooth this morning. Can anyone tell me how much money the tooth fairy is leaving for teeth these days? He's my first, so I have no idea. He tells me some kids get $5! Is that for the first tooth or is that the going rate for all teeth? What happened to 25 cents for a tooth!
Any thoughts please.
Thank you!
So What Happened?™
Thank you so much for all your great responses and ideas. We decided to do $5.00 and he was happy when he woke up this morning! I'm going to explain to him that going forward it will be $1.00/tooth and that the first is the special one. I think the coins are also a great idea too!
Thanks again!

DD2 got $5 and a couple of lip glosses (she was happier about the lip gloss) for the first tooth only - a very special occasion. After that, rates come way down to maybe a dollar. I've got two losing teeth by the week and Miss Tooth Fairy doesn't want to go broke!

I always go with something cool like a dollar coin, or, for the first one, a $2 bill. My daughter has lost so many now, I keep a few dollar coins stashed away just in case!

inflation is what happened to the 25 cents when we were kids. i think the going rate is between 3to 5$lol. i would give what you think is fair.good luck.

My son gets a special coin or bill. He has received a "golden" coin (the one dollar coin) & a 2 dollar bill before - just something special & different.

I'd say it depends on what he's going to do with the money. If it's his to spend immediately, then $2 is fine. Twenty-five cents would buy a chocolate bar when I was getting money for my teeth: $2 will buy one now (with change), so that's inflation taken care of.
If you want to teach him a little about handling money, you could give him the $5 he claims that "everyone" is getting, but the extra would go into a savings account (or a nice box!) to be accrued for some bigger, long-term goal.

We asked around and though there are some fairies leaving fives, and others leaving an additional dollar for every tooth, most are leaving $1. That's what we did, and our daughter was thrilled. Seems there's not as much conversation about the amount she leaves as there is about the fact that she comes at all!

Our family tooth fairy never did money. She did presents and each one was generally a book on a subject that child liked to read about. It was great!! and one I hope to continue when the time comes in our family.

We give a dollar coin for each tooth. I went to the bank and stocked up on them. He loves getting the "gold coins"
Another idea that I heard of, after the tooth fairy started visiting our house, so I could use it myself - was to have the tooth fairy write a VERY small note and leave with the coin. You could type it on your computer in a small font size.

My daughter lost her first tooth last week. I also asked around.
I gave $5.00 for the first tooth and let her know it was the first and special. I will drop down to $1.00 per tooth for the rest.
