Toddler Rash - Dallas,TX

My son is almost 2 years old and the other day I noticed a rash on his private area. The rash was little red dots almost chicken pox like but he was not itching or even touching them. The rash went away, but 2 days later returned. I thought it might be the scented wipes I recently purchased but the rash goes up to the top of his diaper and I don't usually wipe him right there. It is not on his behind only on the front of his private area from the top of the diaper to right under his privates. It does not extend out to his leg. You would not be able to see the rash if he was wearing his diaper. The rash today is small red bumps with most of them having whiteheads, almost a pimple like look. Please help! I'm not sure if this is just a heat rash or from the wipes or if it might be something serious. Any comments or answers are greatly appreciated!

Thx~ N.

What can I do next?

My DD gets heat rash really bad when we put her in pull-ups or diapers. It looked JUST like what you just described...

My pediatrician recommended using a corn-starch baby powder to help absorb the sweat. (Heat rash forms when sweat isn't able to come through the pores... It's especially bad in young kids because their pores are too small to handle the amount of sweat... the problem is compounded when wearing tight clothes that hold the sweat against the skin...) If possible, you could try putting him in underwear to help that area 'breathe' a bit better. My DD is an excessive sweater, so she is especially prone to heat rash. Last year, I started putting her in underwear with one of those incontinence 'pads' instead of diapers. It helped SOOO much with her rashes! (Plus, it's cheaper. lol.)

I second the corn starch recommendation! also, at almost two, you might be able to get him to pee in the potty, or like my son to run outside and pee (we live out in the sticks) and just let him go buck naked or in just a cloth diaper. good luck!

Yeast infection!! Take him to the doc and get the cream that will fix it.

Good luck,
L.

Sounds like heat rash to me. I agree with the corn starch recommendation.

Sounds most like heat rash. There is a product at Walmart called Baby Monkey Butt that works wonders!!!!! Not only will it absorb any moisture but it has ingredients to soothe and cool. I use the Lady Monkey Butt myself and love love love it!

Since you said it looks almost like chicken pox, I don't think it is heat rash. My DD gets these on occasion. The pediatrician told us to use Neosporin. She also said it will keep coming back until she is out of diapers. It is very common.
