I am having a hard time deciding on what kind of car seat/ booster seat to get my son. My daughter just turned one and we are looking to move her into my son's seat therefore needing a new car seat for him. I am not comfortable with putting him in a booster seat that just uses the seat belt for safety. I was wondering if anyone has one that they would suggest....

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well I have changed my mind again! I have been looking more in depth at things and I think I am going with the Graco Cargo Booster Seat - so far everything I have read seems pretty positive and I put my son in it at the store and he liked it!! Thanks again to everyone who helped!!

I would recommend a booster seat that has both a five point harness system for now and molded shoulder belt positioners for when he gets older. A good one is the Evenflo Chase Booster Car Seat. You can find it at walmart etc. Its about $56.

I used a booster that has a 5 point harness. You can use the harness until the child is 40 pounds. Then you can use just the seatbelt and the booster has slots on the side to adjust the seatbelt. I want to say my booster was made by Cosco. Graco makes a good one too. I want to say that the boosters that just use the cars seatbelt are for kids that are 30 pounds and three years old and older. I hope this helps.

It's hard for kids to make the transition from a car seat to a booster seat. When my son and I decided he was ready to make the switch, I got a booster seat that had a back on it. So it was still kind of like a car seat, but he had more freedom to get in and out. Then when he's ready the back is removable so it's just the booster. It still only uses the car seat belt, but it has positioners to make sure that it's crossing him correctly. There are other seats that still use the 5 point secure for the seat.

We use the Graco Platinum CarGo Booster seat. It has a five-point harness for smaller children plus the seat belt holders for bigger children. It works for children 20-80 pounds. We use this seat for both our girls (almost 3 and 1) and have no complaints. Good luck!

I don't think you can switch to a booster without the 5 pt harness until the child is 4 and 40 lbs. We bought an Eddie Bower carseat for our son and that has a 5 pt harness and also can be used with just a seat belt. It goes form 20 to 100 lbs. We have used it for about a year and I love it.
Good Luck!

We purchased the Cosco Summit car seat for my oldest daughter. It is affordable (about $80 I think), has a 5-point harness which is good up to 40 pounds, and then converts to a booster seat using the car seat belt and is good up to 100 pounds. It also got a good rating from Consumer Reports.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

Hi M.
My son is 3. He is small for his age. I love the Graco products. You need to do research on if any car seat. Seriously look to see if the company has had alot of recalls on seats. Evenflo has had a ton. Then Cosco is also just as bad.
I bought this style for both my 3 yr old son and my 2 yr old daughter *she be 2 next month*.
It is easy to adjust. Clean up is easy. And if you need to take it out and clean it. It don't take rocket sciencist to figure out where all the pieces go. :)

The seat is like 80 at Walmart. If you check www.gracobaby.com and look for their toddler seats. They have some wonderful patterns. Since we need a second set of car seats for the kids. I am thinking of getting a new pattern. :) I love the pink one for my daughter.

Good Luck with your research.

well first of all i think the laws in ohio and you can check with the local sheriffs department is that a child has to be both 4 years and 40lbs before they can be taken out of a car seat so a booster wouldnt be legal but check with your local sheriffs department on the car seat laws first its been a while since mine have been in car seats but i dont think they have changed

There is a booster seat out there that has a back to it that you use the seatbelt but you can adjust the part where you attach to fit the height of your child as he grows and the back is also removabe so that when he gets older you can take it off and so he can feel like a "big boy".
I'm sorry though i can not remember which company it is made by

I just purchased a booster for my 3 year old son, and the requirements were 30 lbs, 3 years old, and 36 inches. I know they make boosters for 40+ lbs, 4 years old, and 40 inches too. My suggestion would be to purchase one of the high back boosters that allows you to position the belt safely for your child. Graco makes one that my oldest son used for years. I am personally a fan of the backless boosters, but only if they are deemed safe for the child's size and age. If you get one of the high back, belt positioning boosters, then you can still remove the back for when your child is older, and just use the seat belt with the bottom of the booster seat. Good luck!

I love our Brittax, it is a little pricy but well worth every penny. I don't remember the name of it right now, but you can use it up to a 100 lb so that's the only one you'll need. Oh, we bought a car seat that you put a regular belt on and he would just escape out of it and walk in the car. This carseat has built in belts. Good luck deciding!!! :)

I use a Graco CarGo Booster seat that comes with a 5 pt. harness for the littler ones and then when they are bigger the harness can be romoved and used with a seat belt. Also it has slots for shoulder strap seat belts so you can make sure it fits just right. Not to mention it features a cup holder and a side pocket for toys. I love it! Good Luck!
