Toddler Bed or Full Size Bed

My daughter just turned 2 last month and has yet to try to climb out of her crib. My husband and I have decided that once she starts climbing out of her crib, that's when we will move her OUT of the crib. I have a feeling that within the next few weeks, that's going to happen. So, my question is, do I get a toddler bed or do I just get a twin or full size bed and save some money. And if I do get a toddler bed, how long do toddlers generally stay in it? I would love to hear how some of the other mothers dealt with this situation. Thanks!!

What can I do next?

Hey I did not use a toddler bed with either my children. I immediatley put them into a twin size bed. But I would not switch her until she starts getting out of her crib on her own. The longer you keep her in the crib the better off you are. But definitely just buy a twin or full whichever you are wanting her to be in for the long haul.
Hope this helps.... M.

Hey i would go with Full size When mine last year we bought a twin size for my 1 year old (well a little over that) and she does fine i did buy a side rail but to tell you that truth it was pointless my daughter would climb over it and could have got hurt worse so she is now 20 months and has been sleeping in it since christmas and no problems on sleeping either she just likes to get out of bed in the morning without us knowing but that only every once in awhile cause she gets in trouble for that and we show her what to do but you know how they forget things so thats about yet hope this helps you decide!

I think it really just depends on what you wish to do and how fast your child grows. Our son has been in his toddler bed since 12 months old. He will be 5 this year. We figure that by his 6th birthday he might be too big for his toddler bed so we will upgrade. But our son is small/short for his age (still wears 2-3T clothes and is nearly 5yrs old).
You can always buy a bed that comes with a trundle on the off chance that he prefers being closer to the ground. Daybeds can come with those along with other types. Or you can spend $10 on a blow up bed and see if he likes that better on the off chance he hates being that high. OR you can buy the really long rails that basically makes it appear as though it is a crib but has a small gap for him to get out of (that is what we did back when he was 1yr old).

dear ms
when my daughter was this age i went right for a twin size bed. i just didnt put the fram on and put the mattress right on the floor, then she didn't have far to fall. she loved her little bed and moved on to the boxsprings and frame at about 3 1/2 years old. it didn't save alot of money, toddler beds aren't that much, but i felt it saved money on sheets and other bedding, and made the transition to a "big" bed smoother. With my other child we got a toddler bed and it seems to be a waste of money, she is already growing out of it, and after one afternoon of jumping on it broke one of the bars that holds the mattres in place. so if i did it again i would move right to a twin or full bed, whatever her room would hold. hope this helps

I agree with some of the other ladies .... I have 3 kids now and I never had any of them in toddler beds. WE just went to twin size. We used a side rail for the first week and then they were fine. I also set the twin bed up in their rooms so they could crawl on it and so on before we removed the crib.

Hope it helps.
