Need Ideas on What to Do for My Toddlers Bed Situation

I bought my son a second-hand toddler bed when it came time for transition, but it's falling apart. I want to buy a new one so I can use on him and then my daughter once it comes time for her, but then I thought maybe I'd just buy a twin bed, and worry about my daughter later. But I'm worried it'll be too high for him. Does anyone have any suggestions on this one? He's 2.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I am buying a twin size storage bed next week-I looked all over, and it's the perfect one! Thanks to everyone for helping out-I would have bought another toddler bed if it wasn't for all the help.

I put my son in a twin bed at 20 months with a bed rail and he loved it. My daughter whom is now 15 months will also go from her crib to a regular bed. My son never had any problems with falling out.

I bought a toddler bed for my son and felt it was a waste of money. (At least at the time, maybe styles have changed) the guard rails I bought didn’t fit on the toddler bed and the bed was so small he kept falling out, it was almost worth it to just put him on the floor until I could buy him a regular bed, When I bought a twin bed for him, the guard rail fit beautifully and he never fell out, The bed lasted him for years until we moved and he got a room that fit a queen bed. That’s just my take on it. If I have more kids, I'll never buy a toddler bed again, I think the Idea is cute but I think it’s a frivolous- un-necessary purchase.

I think your decision should be based on the child. My oldest son was a climber so a toddler bed was usless, we went straight to a twin bed with a rail for him but my daughter loved her crib. She would have loved to stay in it as long as she could but she grew out of it. She is also not very strong so we decided to put her in a toddler bed which we got at walmart, its still running strong. It encouraged independence because she was not strong enough to pull herself up onto the twin. She has since graduated to a twin at 3 years old after only a year with the toddler bed and the smaller bed will be kept for my youngest or given away. I think if it helps your child then it isn't a waist of money at all.

When my oldest was 18 mos., he was done being in his crib. My husband and I decided to buy twin size bunk beds and use a guard rail for him. BTW, we got the bunk beds because I was pregnant at the time and was planning ahead, which now has come in handy. My youngest is now 21 mos. and ready to move on to a "big boy" bed just like his big brother. So, when we get the mattress for his bed we'll set up his bed in his room.

Happy bed hunting for your kiddo. :0)

I put both my kids into twin beds when they were only 13 months. I have climbers and it was a safty issue, and we already had the twin beds... you can get gaurd rails almost anywhere kid stuff is sold and they just slide under the matress. Put the bed into a corner if you can and the the rail along the long side and I put two pillows "under teh covers so they didn't slide off) at teh foot of the bed, we neverhad any one fall out of bed and they loved being a "big kid" in a big bed.

We bought a full size bed for our son, he is 2 and just put the mattress and box on the floor with a bed rail.. it is perfect for him. You can add the bed rails later when he is bigger.. :)

Everyone had great ideas for you and I agree with them. It's an uneccissary purchase. My son was less than two years old when I put him in a bunk bed. On the top, even, with a guard rail and he never fell out of bed. It saved a lot of trouble and he slept better than he did on the toddler bed. he never slept in a crib.

C., why don't contact the manufacturer of the toddler bed you already purchased and see if they have any suggestions to make that bed work. Go on their website and contact them via email. They don't have to know the bed was purchased used.

If you get a twin size bed just dont put it on the rack because 2 reasons. actually 3. it's not so high. no cleaning under it for toys and he wont get curios and get stuck under the bed. :)

I don't think 2 is to young for a bed. Both my girls got their beds at 2. I was worried w/ the first, but needed the crib for the second one. We just bought a cute step stool for her to climb in and out of bed. We also bought a safety rail for the side. It worked out great for both of my girls.
*another thought: When we were waiting for our youngest daughters bed that we ordered, she slept on her crib matress on the floor for a week. It was a good transiton.
Good luck!
