Yes a yeast infection can be caused by antibiotics. If I am correct it kills all goog and bad bacteria which allows the yeast to grow, causing the yeast infection.

That they do. I have also found that every time my son has been on antibiotics about a week after he's finished he gets a yeast infection diaper rash.

Hi E.,

Absolutely YES! In fact, if you ever have to take an antibiotic, plan on buying some Monistat or something similar when you pick up the scrip because for alot of women, it is almost a guarantee they will get a yeast infection when taking an antibiotic.

In my experience, the multi-day treatments produce the best results.

Well, you've gotten the great general answer: Yes, taking certain antibiotics can cause a yeast infection. Before trying a remedy such as Monistat however, I strongly recommend trying yogurt; it has been known to have great results. Good Luck!

Absolutely! An antibiotic kills all the bugs in your body, even the good ones that help keep yeast at bay. Some homeopathic remedies that work are:
1) Increasing your yogurt intake
2) adding acidophilous to your diet (pill form is great)

Good luck! And if you need to take antibiotics in future, start right away with homeopathic remedies listed above and that should hopefully help this not to happen again.

Hi,Yes.  The natural yeast in a healthy vagina is "kept in check" by the natural bacteria.  When you take an antibiotic it kills bacteria both good and bad and sometimes the yeast gets out of control.  When that happens you get a yeast infection.  It is a balancing act between bacteria and yeast.  When you are pregnant you are more prone to yeast infection because of the increase in hormones.  Hope you feel better.

absolutely! My naturpathic doctor recommends using a probiotic directly inserted into the vagina while taking antiobiotics. You wouldn't want to orally take the probiotic because it will counteract the antibiotic. Seems to work for me, even with strong drugs.

yes, the reason is that the antibiotic kills the good bacteria along with the bad bacterica. The body needs a certain amount of good bacteria to keep yeast infections away. I take acidophellous (spelling) tablets or eat extra yogurt when on antibiotics to replace the good bacteria. Hope this helps.

Yes, Yes, and Yes. It kills the good bacteria and that lets the yeast take over. Not good for your female system. This can also happen for your digestive system. Not good. You definitely need to talk to your doctor about the correct procedure to make you healthy again. It is very important that you have a healthy and balanced birth canal for your birth. W.

YES! Lots of things can, such as sulfates in wine, too much sugar, stress and then some. But, I can tell you from unfortunate experience...YES antibiotics can create extra yeast therfore causing discomfort such as a full blown yeast infection. Also, be careful b/c it can de-activate birth control pills effectiveness.

I have found straight acidophilus to be a great accompaniment of antibiotics to curb the infection from the start. There is liquid, powder or capsule forms. Need to be refrigerated. Can find at Fred Meyer health section or Super Supplements, etc.

Good Luck!

Absolutely! Diarherra,(sp?) too! How fun. And A yeast infection can be on your body instead of or in addition to the vagina. I usually get a yeast infection when I'm on certain antibiotics, but only on my body-under my breasts, armpits, upper thighs, generally warm, covered up areas.

Yes, but yogurt can help because it has healthy bacteria. I've heard of inserting it into the vagina, but I just eat it and have had luck that way!

You've already received many of the same responses, but why not one more? =0) Anytime anyone takes an antibiotic, they need to be on a probiotic. In fact, according to our pediatrician and OBGYN, if you are on antibiotics, whether or not you have a yeast infection, you should not only take a probiotic, but drink cranberry juice (the light is better, less sugar), eat the Activia yogurt (extra cultures)- or something equivalent, AND take a really good probiotic. I've found one that doesn't need to be refrigerated, comes in a powder you add to juice or yogurt, has seven different kinds of probiotics (a total of one billion) along with a special patented ingredient that helps the good bacteria grow without interfering with the antibiotic, and is certified organic. Both my kids and I take it daily in our yogurt or apple sauce just to keep our intestinal tract healthy. It's called Intestiflora.
Hope that adds a little bit more info.....=0)
Feel better, soon,
