Hi moms! I have been on Biaxin for 2days now. I have bronchitis and a sinus infection. Every time I get an antibiotic, I get a yeast infection. Any suggestions out there on how to prevent it this time around? Thanks to all!!

Acidophillus! Inexpensive...Walgreens has it. Ask the pharmacist to help you. It has to be refrigerated. Works great.

Take probiotics and while you are taking the antibiotics you can ask for a prescription for an antifungal.

Hi K., I use to go through that everytime I got an antibiotic from my doctor. Now my doctor prescribes Diflucan everytime he prescribes me an antiobiotic. You take the pill when you take your first dose of your antibiotic so that by the time you are done taking the antibiotic you won't get a yeast infection. It's great. You just have to make sure and remind your dr. to give you the script for the antibiotic and diflucan at the same time.
good luck!!!

Eat Yogurt (needs to be natural with low sugar) and take Acidophiles capsules before every meal. You can also take a Probiotic to help with digestion and help regulate your system. Cut out the refined sugars in your diet and cut bread from the diet (very high is yeast).
These changes should help boost your system and help prevent a yeast infection occurring.

You can also insert acidopholis capsules into your vagina. And reduce your sugar consumption.

Lots of yogurt and kefir preferrably without sugars or YUCK High Fructos Corn Syrup! Sugar in any form feeds a yeast infection...There are probiotic pills at the health food store or even Walgreens...Best are refrigerated but those are expensive...
Start on a good daily multi vitamin and extra vitamin C to build up your resistance to any illnesses in the first place...Good luck!

I had the same problem so I can totally sympathize. after some research & getting tired of the messy creams, I started probiotics too as a first time mom. Taking a probiotic is very important when taking an antibiotic to keep the healthy bacteria in your instestines in check. That's where 70% of your body's immunity comes from. Like the other moms suggested, make sure you take the probiotic in a 2-3 hour window before or after you take your antibiotic meds. The probiotics that worked fastest for me were the Yeast Balancing Pearls. You can buy them at Walgreens--blue box in the vitamin area. They deliver a high percentage of the probiotic so it gets passed your stomach acid into your intestines where it can fight the yeast. I had a yeast infection recently. I took 1 pearl in the AM & PM and my infection was gone within 24 hours. No messy creams or anything needed "down there"!! Loved not having to deal with that! It's also a good idea to take it as part of a daily vitamin routine--just like eating yogurt--1 dose every other day should keep you in balance and healthy. Just check with your Dr. if you are breast feeding. Good Luck! Judy

My suggestion is that you start taking a multivitamin every day with breakfast, if you aren't already, and that you also take some probiotics every day...

http://www.udoerasmus.com/products/probiotics_en.htm

This resource also suggests that we need to take a Vitamin D supplement in order to fight off various infections that come our way...

http://store.homefirst.com/Pro-D-Vitamin-D-with-Probiotic...

I also suggest that you look up info about yeast infections in this book. You can probably find it in your local public library, or through inter-library loan...

Definitely take a good probiotic. Choose one with live cultures - these will be in a refrigerated unit in Whole Foods or other health food stores. Heat kills the bacteria, so keep it in your fridge or freezer.
Good luck!

hi K.

I have the same problem.
take acidophilus (not sure I spelled it correctly) and get lots of good yogurt that contains acidophilus. there is also a prescription med you can take (ask the dr about it). I have never taken the pill because I hate taken more meds than i have to but that is an option as well.
hope this helps

I know exactly what you mean. I talked to my doctor about it and she recommended taking acidophilus tablets over the counter. It's a probiotic. I take it right away and the first day I double the recommendation and if I have the start of a yeast infection this seems to work that it doesn't get any worse and goes away. The other thing you can do is ask for a prescription of Diflucan when you take antibotics.

Yep...Have the same problem you do when I take antibiotics....As all the posts said. Take a probiotic. You'll want to take a good one...Yes double up on the dose too during and for at least a week after you complete the antibiotics as they stay in your system for a few days after your done with your treatment. Eat yogurt daily with those active cultures. A good probiotic to try is Superdopholus from WellnessResources.com . A shacklee.com product called Optiflora or one by Metagenics (order Nutritional Concepts.com) called Ultra Flora Plus. You can order any of these online. I believe in all three...as I have not had a problem once taking these. Best Wishes.

Eat yogurt and get probiotics. Probiotics are a supplement that you can take all the time because they will aid in digestion and help get rid of any other symptoms that you may get on a regular/semi-regular basis (i.e. bloating, diarrhea, etc..)

I hope you feel better soon - are you using a neti-pot for your sinus infection, or at least a home made one? It is helpful and will move things along quicker.

Good luck.

I would suggest getting AZO- there's many different kinds but it would be best to start it now to prevent the yeast infection all together or at least it will help make it more mild. I believe the AZO products are natural.
