Things to Pack for Lunch

I just started a new job and need ideas on things that I can pack for lunch. The job requires a lot of traveling between client's homes. I was warned by other co-workers that a lot of time there is no time to stop and eat lunch or dinner between appointments, and that I should either pack my lunches/dinners or be prepared to grab something at a drive through every day. It needs to be something that I can eat while driving... Like a sandwich. And I wouldn't mind just packing sandwiches and calling it good, but I'm pregnant so I can't eat deli meat (I probably wouldn't have time to stop at a gas station and heat up the meat in their microwave). The thought of PB&J makes me gag, and I am not a tuna fan. What other options are there? I know that there must be something I'm not thinking of! :)

Am I the only one who has never given thought to eating and driving? I have always eaten while driving and never had an issue. Texting and driving is completely off limits, but I've never heard anyone having issue with eating a sandwich behind the wheel.

I eat a ton of raw veggies, cheese, crackers, summer sausage, fresh fruit, etc. How about egg salad? You could stuff a pita. You could keep some hot soup in a thermos and then put it in a travel mug to sip too.

Veg and cheese (i.e. pepper strips, cucumber spears, pre-rinsed spinach leaves, sugar snap peas, cherry tomatoes).

Hardboiled eggs with celery sticks, and carrots.

just because you can't eat deli meat doesn't mean that you can't eat sandwich meat. You can cook and slice roast beef, turkey breast, and chicken.

mac & cheese
chili
soup
a baked potato, with brocoli, salsa, cheese

pull over and eat. don't eat and drive, it really is distracted driving.

Good luck to you and yours,

Sorry - but eating and driving is just as dangerous as talking on the cell phone and driving. You have already stated you are a nervous driver. I would pack a lunch to eat in the parking lot NOT while driving.

Your lunch bag should be insulated and with an ice pack so you can keep your food cold. There are soo many selections out there now in lunch boxes that you can find a pretty neoprene one that looks like a purse!

lunch meat on a tortilla and rolled up. (yes, I saw that you don't want lunch meat - not sure why would need to heat it up).

Egg salad on a lettuce leaf - rolled up.

Burrito - keep it simple - bean and cheese and if you feel up to it? Add beef.

Fresh Veggies and dressing.

make sure you have snacks that you can munch on - pretzels, cheese and crackers - those are great to munch on and easy to keep.

Apples and peanut butter (not sure if it's just the peanut butter that makes you want to gag or the peanut butter and jelly together).

Yogurt is a good thing as well.

Walk through your grocery store and see what you like and what appeals to you. then go from there.

To keep hassles in the morning to a minimum? Prepare your lunch the night before and keep it in the refrigerator.

I have never heard of heating up lunch meat, that must be a regional thing! You can have many other types of sandwiches, turkey, egg or chicken salad, BLT, tomato-cheese-avacado, grilled chicken, meatloaf/meatballs, veggies. If you're not good at coming up with ideas just walk into a Subway and look at the menu. You can pack fresh fruit and sliced up veges, trail mix, nuts, granola bars, all KINDS of things. Be careful about eating and driving though, it can be just as distracting and dangerous as texting while driving. Personally I'd pull over somewhere to eat.

Granola bars/cereal bars
Apples, bananas, raisins, sliced fruit
carrot sticks, broccoli, celery, cucumber or other fresh veggie slices
pretzels or crackers
gogurt
veggie sandwich or wrap (use cream cheese or hummus and fresh veggies like bell pepper, cucumber, lettuce or spinach, onion)

I think your best bet is to spend a little prep time each night packing a lunch and dinner. Fast food adds up so fast.

I understand the no lunch meat unless heated- I did it too while pregnant and their was a recall while I was so I was glad I followed the newer suggestions.

I do agree it might be easiest to stop and eat and take the extra 5 minutes. It would take longer for a sit down or walk in, but if you are just pulling out the lunch bag would be quick. It will also give you a break for a min or two.

Cheese and crackers
salad- green or fruit (if you can stop)
bagel with cream cheese, veggies
cheese and beg sandwich or wrap
veggies to snack on
yogurt/gogurt

Don't eat while driving. BAD idea. You need to be thinking about "safety for TWO" these days, not just gambling with your own safety.

Cook meat at home for sandwiches. Roast a chicken on the weekend and eat chicken sandwiches.

Soup in a thermos is easy too.

Muffins. Zucchini bran, for instance. Egg salad, or a tomato and avocado sandwich.

Peruse your local grocery store - maybe they have some ideas.
