The Pill and That Time of the Month

I have been on b/c pills for the better part of 20 years (besides briefly going off for pregnancies). Over the last two years my cycle has been pretty erratic. For instance, I got my period last week which was one week early and I'm still bleeding 7+ days later. This is not the first time this has happened. I asked my doctor about it last year and she switched the type of b/c pill but it is still happening. I take the pill at the same time every day (within one hour). It's like my body is not responding to the hormones. Any thoughts? Thanks Mamas.

By the way, I will soon be 42

What can I do next?

Weight gain or weight loss will also throw stuff off.

I'm healthy, 43 years old and had been on The Pill since I was 18 and my doctor said NO MORE. Make a decision because you REALLY shouldn't be on The Pill anymore due to blood clots. The bleeding was HORRIBLE after having our son at 40. My iron was always low and the cramping was almost as bad as labor!

I already had the Esure procedure done and just had Novasure done two months ago. It's awesome to be OFF THE PILL!

If you're done having kids it's time to get something done. You'll be SO happy you did.

Your body chemistry changes every several years, and more often the older you get.
It may just be that those pill combinations you've tried aren't working anymore for you. You might have to play with a number of different pills to see what fits you now.

How old are you? My doctor asked me at my last appt if my periods were still regular while on the pill, because aging can cause changes. Mine are still quite regular, but I am aware that this can happen. I'm 50.

Maybe you should get your other hormones checked:
cortisol (saliva)
DHEA
progesterone
testosterone
estrogen
and others

and if things keep going that way or getting worse, a full blood panel....testing you for anemia and others. The body keeps all kinds of hormones in balance, or tries to! Taking estrogen in a pill doesnt just change that hormone, it will affect others, and also afects certain mineral balance.
There are only two ways your body communicates 1. is through nerves and 2 is through hormones. If either of these communication systems get screwed up, the whole body can get out of whack and can affect the nervous system and thyroid, your energy levels, major organs, etc.

Excessive vaginal bleeding can be caused by tumors also. So get a checkup.
