My 6 year old daughter was up last night TERRIFIED of the Boogyman. She's created him from the handle of her dresser and kept the entire family up most of the night. Any suggestions to calm her fears and move her mind to other topics?

What can I do next?

Both our girls went through being scared of things in the dark at some point.

Since we are christians we handled this in two different ways. We taught them the verse from Ps. 56:3 "When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You (God)" We would talk about all the things that God does to care for us and how we can trust in Him. We also made sure we had an adequate night light and did a thorough check of their rooms each night to reinforce that there wasn't anything there and they could trust us and God to care for them.

Hope this helps!

My son was afraid of monsters for a little while. I got a tiny little spray bottle and filled it with water and lavender oil and told him it was monster spray. He would take it to bed with him and use it when ever he was scared. It didn't last very long. I think anything you can do to make them believe it works is what will help.
Good Luck

Try "dressing up" the handle before she goes to bed. Get some cool glow in the dark shoelaces and maybe decorate it with glow in the dark stickers. You can find some that are easily removed. we also tried the spray, but it didn't work for us.
You could also get a flashlight for her
Good Luck

The spray bottle with the lavendar oil in it works. I've done this with several kids. You can name it anything you want based around what your daughter is into. You can call it the "princess spray", "monster-away spray", "go and play monster spray". You can dress it up anyway you want to. For example, for the princess one, I put glitter in the bottle with feathers around the top of the outside. I also out confetti with princess crowns in the water. For the monster go and play...basically the same thing, only found confetti with sports themes and this gave the monster something better to do! Hope this helps, N. Also..side note, make a mental note of what she is watching, listening to, reading before bed. Sometimes this has an effect on kids.

It has been awhile, so maybe it has resolved itself. I just wanted to add that my first-grader and I just read the Junie B book "There's a Monster Under My Bed" last week, and it was hilarious. Not sure if that would help make light of the situation or not. Junie's quite the pill, but all the stories have a lesson in the end, and they are great fun for a 6-year-old. Good luck!
BTW they end up 'sucking the monster up' with the vacuum cleaner, but not sure if that would work if yours is a physical thing like a handle!

I have not had any experience with this, but a friend of mine used "Jesus spray". She gave her son a can of Lysol spray and everytime he got scared, he was supposed to spray it and Jesus would be with him.

Good Luck.
