Teething Out of Order - Canal Winchester,OH

My 10 month old son is finally getting his first tooth, but it is his top canine. Everything I read says they should get their bottom incisors first. Has anyone experienced teething out of order? If yes, was everything ok?

What can I do next?

Is it REALLY a canine? Those come AFTER the front 8 and first 4 molars around 18 months!! I'm guessing it's actually just a front lateral and yes, the front 8 can come in in any order. My first son was 9 months old when he got his first 2 teeth - a front bottom and a top lateral.

I have a 1 1/2 yr old and he was late getting his teeth but his first teeth were his canines. He looked like a little vampire. It wasn't too long after that he started getting his other front teeth. I would just give it a little time and they should all be coming through soon. My son still hasn't got one of his bottom front teeth but is already getting his molars, about 4-6 teeth all at once. Every child is different so I am sure you son will be getting his other front teeth soon.

What is normal for one is not necessarily normal for all. Just because 9 of 10 people do not normally have webbing between their toes does not mean it is not normal for 1 of 10 people to have webbing between their toes.
Teeth, like all other areas of life come in when they are destined to come in. Yes, my son cut his "eye" teeth before cutting his "canine" teeth. My daughter cut all 4 at the same time. I did not worry about it, I did not read a dozon books to determine that this was not "normal".
Ease up and worry about the big things in life. If your child can see, can hears, has all of it's limbs and the use of them be grateful and stop sweating the unimportant.

Our darling oldest did everything "out of order"!! She cut her first two teeth at two months and they weren't the "right ones". I learned real fast what wan't normal for most didn't mean it wasn't normal for her. (Her "normal" body temp is 2 degrees less than mine!!) Don't sweat the small stuff and good luck with the teething!!

My daughter teethed out of order too! The doc said there is nothing wrong with it, just the way she did it. Getting teeth is one of those things we have absolutely no control over. You can't make it happen faster or slower or in any order. You're just sort of along for the ride! Your little guy is unique, just embrace it and love his little pointy teeth!

My daughter's 3rd tooth was a molar. She was a very late teether. The doctor said it was strange but there is nothing wrong with it.

My kids started out with an older pediatrician and an older dentist. Both those docs told me there's no such thing as a normal chronology for teeth - they will come in when they will for each child (that was a real relief up front).

The most important thing is to start early keeping your baby's teeth healthy, so they're very used to brushing (whether with a baby tooth cleaning "glove" or a pediatric brush) and to make going to the dentist a very comfortable, familiar event. It's all so much easier without the freakouts.

Oh yeah, and when the dentist tells you to avoid high fructose corn syrup, believe him/her :)

Hi A.! My 16 month old is a slow poke at cutting teeth. Both my kids were actually. However, my youngest cut both top front and bottom teeth, then waits a few months and moves on to his molars. So... there is no written order they come in at. Just whenever they make their way through the gums.

Don't worry! Our son's teeth came in the same way, at about 10-11 mos. also, and our pediatrician said that it is not unusual. He looked a bit like a vampire for a little while as both canines came in at the same time. It didn't last for long though, as a few weeks later more teeth started coming in. His teeth are coming in bunches of 2-4 teeth at a time.
