9 Month Old with Different Teething Pattern

Ok, I'm not sure if this is normal so I figured I'd get your perspectives. My son got his front bottom tooth a month ago then a couple weeks later I looked and he has two top teeth, but not the front, he got his front top and top canine. So now hes totally 3 teeth, 1 front bottom, 1 front top, and 1 top canine. I was uder the assumtion that(at least with my neice and cousins) that they get thier two bottom front first, then thier two top front, and then canines. Am I wrong?! Should I take him to the dentist to make sure the other front teeth are there? I know Im probally overreacting but Im a mom, thats what we do right?! Thanks

What can I do next?

I wouldn't worry too much. My son was textbook. All the right teeth at all the right times.

Now my daughter? Completely a different story ... got her bottom tooth and then the 2 canines and that was it for the longest time. We called her the littlest vampire. I did call my dentist cause like you I was worried that there were no other teeth coming and he said that those eruption schedules that moms see are just schedules and not a "definite". I am happy to report that she has front teeth now and more bottom as well.
Good luck!

I think the teeth schedule is what 'most' kids get, but I know of many babies who do not follow the schedule (perhaps they didn't get the memo!).

I wouldn't worry too much about it. All babies are different. If it would make you feel better, maybe call your dentist and ask his or her professional opinion, but I bet that its not that abnormal to have them come in off schedule. Or I bet that there are some tooth experts here too.

It will be interesting to see what the professionals say (as I am 'just' a mom!) :-)

if I were you I would call my pediatrician. It can't hurt and it will give you piece of mind.
good luck

Please don't read into it too much - you'll stress yourself unnecesarily. Different children teeth in their own ways and its all fine. Some get their back teeth earlier than some front ones and vise versa. Also, there really isn't that kind of rigid pattern of getting teeth so whether your neice and nephew got theirs in a certain way or not should not determine your expectations for your children. I know sometimes you wonder about these things but your little one is doing just fine. Enjoy him while he's so little! It only gets better!!!

My son got his front 2 bottoms, then front top 2 and them moved on to the molars, he now (16 months) has 4 on top, 3 on bottom, with 1 more bottom molar, and a 1 top canine coming in. I think all children are different. My mom tells me that my sister didn't get any teeth until after she turned 1, my son got his first 2 at 5 months, by 6 he has the first 4. I would probally just bring it up at your next well child visit.

my 14 month old daughter's teeth have been coming in an odd order. i mentioned it at our last well baby check up, and the doctor just shrugged. she said as long as she is getting teeth, relax. not every kid follows the textbook.

I spoke with a dentist that I am friends with and he tells me that your son is doing just fine!

Relax, enjoy him and know that his teeth will come in in their "own" order!

Hi M. ,

My 10 month old daughter got her bottom front teeth first, within a couple weeks of each other, and then got the ones on top next to her front teeth (I don't think they're canines, but the ones between the front two teeth and canines). I was a little worried so I called her pediatrician's office and his nurse told me that, although it is rare, she has seen it before and not to worry about it. One of my daughter's top front teeth just broke through and the other one is right there about to pop too. Sometimes babies just don't want to be "textbook". :) So don't worry about it, I'm sure he's fine.

Take care!
