Should I Be Worried About the Order My Childs Teeth Are Coming In?

My one year old started getting her teeth at around 9 months of age which is fine. She got her two front bottom teeth first and then is was like a good month or more until she got her next one which is also fine. The problem is when her next one came in it wasn't her top front tooth. It was one of her "vamipire" teeth on the top. Then the fourth tooth was her other "vampire" tooth. She still hasn't gotten her top two front teeth. I know that each kid is different but this seems really unusual to me. I have also heard that there have been cases where the those teeth never formed before they were born so they never get there two top front teeth. Has anyone else ever heard this? and is this something that I sould be worried about?

What can I do next?

I've never heard of the teeth not coming in, which just means I haven't heard of it, not that it doesn't happen. However, we have 3 kids and although #3 is just beginning to get teeth, I can tell you, it seems all 3 will have gotten their teeth in that order. Mine are fast teethers, usually done with everything between 12-18 months, so the fangs never happened for us. I hope she gets some other teeth soon!

My first son got them in exactly that order! How funny, huh? It was perfect, because he had "fangs" just in time for Halloween, which went perfect with his cougar (go BYU!) costume.
He's 4 now and has all his teeth. They're all just fine.
By the way, I've heard that teeth fall out in the order that they come in. I plan to see if that's how it really happens!
What I'm worried about most is if my kids' adult teeth will grow in. I still have two baby teeth. Needless to say, they weren't meant to last 30 years, so they're not in great shape. I'm going to have to get them replaced with implants as soon as we can afford them.

I wouldn't worry. My oldest will be 3 in December and she only had one front tooth at 13 months old. She was very slow cutting her teeth. She just cut her last tooth about a month ago. My second child has as many teeth as my 3 year old had at 2. Each child is different, there is an basic order to which their teeth are "supposed" to come in, but with any rule there are always exceptions.
Hope this helps.

My daughters teeth came in diffrent to. She got her vampire teeth before most of her other ones. If your are concerned talk to your doctor about it or a pediatric dentist.

Check out www.smilesdvd.com where you will find a very informative dental education DVD for parents and children. The Smiles for a Lifetime DVD covers dental topics from pacifier use to braces. It will show how and when your child's teeth will come in and give you some advice on easing their discomfort. There is also a segment called "Barrington goes to the dentist" where your child can see what their dental visit will be like.

If you are rea;;y worried, you could talk toa dentist. Bit, relax. Our daughter, who is 3 now, teethed the same way. We used to call her baby Nosferatu. She got her bottom two teeth then her canines. She even cut another set of bottom teeth befor she got her top two front teeth. Our 19 month old son cut all four front teeth within a month. It seems to be so random.

No, some kids get molars first. And mine- my first- one came in on the bottom first and then the side tooth and with my second- two on the side and then the bottom.

My sister's kids came in all the same way; Top, bottom, side, molars.

Don't worry. My son got his eye teeth last and the pediatrician said she had never seen a child not get all of their teeth (I was worried too) and that it did not matter what order they came in. He didn't even get his first tooth until after a year old and three or four only came in because he hit his mouth and broke his gums. Smile-everything is fine.

My 3 year old son's teeth did the same thing. They eventually all came in.....but totally out of order. The pediatric dentist said it was fine and actually fairly common. I would not be worried. My son even got his first molars before most of his other teeth :-)

I would go see a dentist... but I don't think you have to worry.
I was missing teeth as a child. I was missing both baby and grown up teeth. They just never formed as I developed.

Now I did have to wear braces to help re-arrange my mouth a bit in jr high, but I didn't wear them any longer than other kids and my smile today is fine. But of course the teeth I was missing were all molars.

Too be on the safe side see a dentist. Knowing now what to expect and how to prepare seems to be the best idea.
But again I wouldn't be too concerned. They can do so many things today if indeed she is missing teeth. Look in the bright side... at least she doesn't have a whole second set of grown up teeth like my father! He had to loose teeth twice!!!

Good luck :)

My daughter started getting teeth at five months! They didn't necessarily come in the right order and one of her bottom side teeth never came in. It is a good time to take your Daughter to a Pediatric dentist. They can do xrays and see where the baby teeth are and will let you know if there is a problem.

It was an actual blessing my daughters bottom tooth never came in as she has spacing issues anyway due to a petite jawline. So that space has been filled with the other teeth now. She has lost 9 baby teeth and is only seven and these big kid teeth are much larger then her baby teeth. Needless to say it was a positive.

I started my kids going at 16 mos to the dentist, they love going and it helped ease my pain or worry when I questioned teething and such. All kids are different. My son didn't start getting teeth until 7 mos and his came in a weird order too, he got three on the bottom before the top ones came in, however xrays showed early they were all there to come in and have. He is four now.

I wouldn't worry too much. Good time to get her used to someone looking her mouth and not fearing the dentist. The younger you start them the easier it gets. My kids actually get excited when it is time for their checkups! Go figure since I dread the dentist! :)

It's probably fine but if you are really worried about it, I would talk to a pediatric dentist. Ours gives a free consult around 1 year.

I don't know that you should be too freaked out just yet, however, my best girlfriend has some gene where two of her top teeth never developed, and she has fake ones. You would never know it to look at her. Were I you, I would just wait and see in the next months to a year if they grow in. Then if need be, take her to your dentist and go from there.

Usually it's not a problem. And there's not anything you can do about it or should do about it this early. However, my daughter had one eyetooth that was misformed (carrot shaped) and because of the shape of it, the next tooth slid over while still inside the gum and she had to have braces in second grade to move teeth out of the way so the rest could come in. But my dentist pointed it out and told me when it was time to see an orthodontist. Don't sweat it. Consult your dentist to ask how early he sees little patients for their first checkup and take the child in at that age.

My dentist and dental assistant both raved to me when my children made their first visit about how they were "amazingly good in the chair." I guess most kiddos are terrified, but mine were calm and cooperative. I said that's because I told them the dentist loved them and wanted to make sure everything was good with their teeth so they would not have any pain in their mouth, and explained that the dentist would be looking inside their mouth to count their teeth and make sure everything was just the way it should be.

Dear L.,

I would not worry about your child's teeth coming in. I used to be a dental hygienist and also had the same experience with my daughter. The tooth that erupted like you described could most likely be an extra tooth. That sometimes happens. It is really nothing to be concerned about unless when it comes time for the permanent ones to erupt. My daughter had to have the extra one pulled because the roots don't resolve like normal baby teeth. The other teeth should erupt soon. If you are really worried about it... look up some information about the schedules of when teeth erupt and also about how some have extra teeth.

Yay! Your daughter is not following the mold. I never had teeth until I was older than a year, and my DD (noW 12 mo.) has 4. She got the bottom left then she got her right bicuspid?? the one between her center tooth and her canine. The she got the other bottom one, and then her top center tooth next to the other top one...my point is, she'll look like she got in a boxing match with herself becasue her teeth are coming in in a funny order. As long as they are healthy, don't worry. If closer to her 2nd birthday (18 mo. or so) she still doesn't have them, take her to the dentist. Until then enjoy her snaggly smile :)

Its not abnormal. Some kids just don't follow the 'regular' way of doing things. My daughter's teeth came in "out of order" and she lost some of her baby teeth in an odd order too, but they're all there, healthy and even mostly straight! lol
