Teething on Crib Rail!

Hello,
My son has taken to teething on his crib. There are already several indentations from him biting down, but I want/need it to stop! I know there are plastic pieces you can buy for cribs, but I heard they don't work well. Also, our crib is not "standard size". That is, the railings are thicker and more substantial. Does anyone have any tricks they use for this, or am I just destined to have a crib that is torn to pieces!?
Thanks!
A.

Ditto about the "gummy-type" rail guard at Babies 'R' Us...that's what we used three years ago, and just recently peeled it off our daughter's old crib rail. It had stayed in place nicely over the years and didn't damage the furniture finish. Our daughter wasn't an aggressive rail chewer, so I can't really say that it withheld big-time teething. I will buy another one for our second daughter when the time comes!

We used those plastic pieces to cover the rails but secured them with thick cable ties (you can get them at Home Depot) that our daughter could not chew through. We cut the tips off the cable ties once they were secure and made sure the ends were facing out and down from where our daughters face would be. She was not able to get the plastic protectors off once we did this. Good luck!

We used a gummie strip that came in a roll and I cut it to fit for the length. If I needed more width I would have just put another strip next to it. I've had it on for almost a year and it has still stayed put. (he's 19 months old now).

One Step Ahead has a gummi one that looks like it might work and conform to your crib. You can check it out at www.onestepahead.com click on nursery, and then crib accessories.

There is a store called Baby World, off Inwood Road in Dallas (across from the Galleria) that sells covers for cribs. It is a long piece of padded material that velcros(sp?) onto the bar of the crib. They have all different types of patterns and colors. This worked for quite awhile until she was old enough to tear it off (although I think one lady sewed the fabric onto the crib to keep her child from doing this). By the time my daughter was old enough to tear it off, she was done with the major teething and didn't bother the wood anymore.

Hi A.,
We purchased a Gummy Strip from Babies “R” Us, it was self stick and cut to size. We have a stupidly expensive crib (for the first child) and it came off of the beautiful mahogany wood without any issues and protected it against our little beaver :-)

Good Luck!

I was worried about the gummy tape stuff you could put on a crib rail (we too have a larger rail than those plastic pieces would fit). There is a warning that they don't guarantee no paint will be removed. Our crib is supposed to be her bed later so we didn't want to risk it.

I have taken a quilted fabric (bought it at Walmart) and used strong velcro between the bars to hold it on and she doesn't chew as much on it and it won't take the paint off anymore. (it doesn't look the prettiest but it works). It guess if your son can pick the fabric apart it might not work, my daughter isn't interested in the fabric to mess with it.
