Help! Chewing on Crib Railing!

My daughter used to do the same thing. I didn't find any alternative since she would do it when going down for a nap, etc. and I couldn't see her. I did find an adhesive plastic strip (made to go on crib rails) at "One Step Ahead". This at least kept her from gnawing on the wood.

I put vinegar on my son's crib rails. After a couple tries at chewing, he stopped.

Onestepahead.com has a clear gummy plastic that snaps on over the crib rail so she can chew safely and not ruin your crib. My daughter did it too and this worked great.

Our daughter did that too! It looks like a beaver was in her crib. My husband went to Home Depot and got either PVC or maybe it is just called Plastic corner covering and her glued it to the crib rail. And that stopped her from chewing.
Although, just yesterday I noticed that little piece was off - and in her HANDS! Luckly she did not put that in her mouth. So just choose wisely and good luck!

OMG, my daughter's crib rails look like a chew bone! She chewed on it, and chewed on it. I put plastic rails on one part (bought at Babys R Us), but our crib has a round bar on the front and thicker rails on each side that don't accommodate those plastic teething rails. So I covered them with towels and cloth diapers and secured them, she nawed on those!!! She even was able to slide the cloth over and continue to chew!! Nothing I did worked, so I gave up. She now has about 10 teeth, and has stopped chewing on the crib. But it's trashed, and unfortunately, it's the kind we will turn into a day bed. So she'll have some "marks" on her bed to always remind us of her teething stage! Sorry I have no good advice. But if your crib has standard straight rails, those rubber teething rails should do the trick.

I have two kids and both of them did that. Now when I look at those marks, I can't help but feel a little sentimental because it was just part of their baby stage that is no longer here. They never hurt themselves and it helped sooth them.

How old is your daughter? If she is over 2 maybe it is time to switch to a big girl bed. They do have plastic caps to slip over the rail. Usually they already come with the crib. Maybe Babies R Us might have them. If not then switch to a pack n play or playpen. They usually have the material coverings around the edges.

Try crib gaurds for teething sold by One Step Ahead. They are just plastic covers that snap on top of the crib rails. You can shop online at the website and also request a catalog. They have the most inventive products - most invented by parents. I hope it helps.

My son had the same problem. I would get worried that he might cut himself or get pieces of wood stuck in his teeth. But we found a rubber cover to go over the railing and it worked perfect. He still would bit the railing because it would soothe him through his teething, but I was not to worried. I hope this helps.

I bought a crib rail protecter from Burlington Coat factorys, Baby Depot.

Oh yes, both of my daughters are chewers. I bought a plastic side rail that fits over the cribs rail from Babies R US. And voila. My second daughters teeth grew in right away so poor thing was always on something.
