My son will be 4 months soon and I think he may be teething. About a month ago he started sleeping 7-9 hours straight, getting up to eat, then going right back to sleep. He's gone back to getting up about 2:00 in the morning and has had a rough time getting back to sleep. He's been a drooler for awhile, but in the past couple of weeks we have to keep a bib on him @ all times as he soaks his shirt. He also wants to chew on EVERYTHING - including the collar on his shirt or coat. He does have his 4 month well baby visit next Tues., and will be asking his dr. about it, but wondering how any of you mommies (or daddies) dealt w/teething and any remedies that have been successful? Thanks, in advance!!!!!

Highlands Teething Tablets work WONDERS :)

My youngest had/has a very hard time when she's teething and I had tried everything imaginable until my friend recommended the teething tablets. Now, it's all I use :) You can get them at any drug store (Walgreen's, Wal-Mart, Jewel, etc...)

Good Luck with it ;)

hi

I am a first time of 14 mth old girl. My duaghter started heavy drooling around 4 mths. We looked for options. A friend of our suggested Highland's Homeopathic Teething medicine. We gave one a day every day. She did fine, droling went down and eventually stopped. This is sold in walgreen jewel, domnick, all store with bbay food aisle.

This is said to have no side efect. U can check with yr pediatric too. Ours said it is safe.

All the Best!!

Hi, my son is 61/2 months, and hes been teething since around 4 months. I find that Little Teethers' baby gum gel works great for fast relief, and then maybe even some infant tylenol for those really rough nights where he wakes up and cant go back to sleep. My son doesnt like teething rings or wet washcloths, etc, so i cant tell you anything about those. Anyway, i hope your little one finds something to help him, and good luck!

For me the all natural Hyland's teething tablets worked wonders, they are miniature and melt right away in the mouth.

Teething tablets! You can find them at Walgreens and sometimes WalMart as well. My sister has twins and I asked her how she dealt with teething dual babies. She swore by them and now so do I. It helped out alot. Another remedy is letting them suck on the pedialite pops. My son never got into the norm of putting things in his mouth so he did not like the teething rings at all and he did not drool much. I knew he was teething when he would put his fingers on his gums and cry or when he was running a temperature. I have a very strange little man on my hands but I would defenitely get the teething tablets. They are sweet so the kids like the taste and you can tell they work within only a few minutes.

Hi M.,

I just posted a few days ago regarding close to the same thing. Teething is a hard thing to determine because they cannot tell you what is going on and you have to guess by their age and symtoms. My daycare actually was concerned my baby girl might have an ear infection because she was so fussy and didn't want to go down for a nap. I decided it was teething because when I gave her Motrin (she is 6mo old) and some oragel, her crankiness seemed to decrease.

My girl doesn't like teething rings or anything either. I have heard cold/wet washcloths work, putting carrots or something that retains their cold in the mesh bags for them to chew on, and I have heard those teething tablets are wonderful. Have not tried the tablets, but am thinking about it.

From what I understand, and what was also said below, is they could be teething for months and not break a tooth. So it can be frustrating and confusing and just plain hard. I am with you girlfriend...this is going to be tough. Keep trying different things and maybe you will find something that works for your little one. There are tons of remedies, you just need to find one that fits for you.

Good luck.

Hi M.,
I'm a Nurse and mother of 2 daughters (oldest is 2 & my youngest is 6 months). Your son may not be teething....it could be a growth spurt. Most infants tend to hit another growth spurt around 4 months. Also, around 4 months is when ALL babies tend to stick EVERYTHING in their mouths...as this is when they begin to have more control over their hands and are able to grab at whatever is close to them, as well as babies "feel" with their mouth, their mouth is what they use to explore and check things out (like we do with our hands). It's part of their learning process.
Both of my daughters did the same as what you are describing....and my oldest didn't get her first tooth until 10 months (yes, she was later than the "norm") and my 6 month old isn't showing any signs of teeth yet. Also keep in mind not all babies have a hard time with teething. I'm sure you will hear a lot of stories of how horrible of a time it is. But that's not always true. My oldest daughter was an awesome teether...with ALL her teeth, even her molars. I never had to give her anything...and you would have never known she was teething. Let's see if I get lucky twice and have the same experience with my second daughter :) doubt it though. :)

Take Care.

My daughter started drooling at three months and got her first two teeth at four months. I used the Hyland's homeopathetic pills, melts in their mouths and helps to calm them and soothe their painful gums naturally. It worked for us along with frozen teethers. Unfortunatley, they'll still put everything in their mouths.
Good Luck,
N.

Hi, M.. I've found that an ice cold wash cloth works well. Babies like the cold feeling on their gums. Also, putting a crushed up ice cube in the cloth and tying it is great for chewing/gnawing on while providing the cold relief. My daughter loved it. Our pediatrician recommended it to us when she first started teething, and we couldn't believe how well it worked! Good luck!

Hi M.!

I am a first time mom too! My son is turning a year in just a few days. Let me tell you, teething sucks! My son started showing signs of teething around 3 months, but his first teeth didn't come in until 5 months. Then he got 4 more teeth in around 6 months and since then he's been working on about 6 more teeth but they are only right now starting to poke through a tiny bit. The point is, the whole process just never seems to end. There are good weeks where the teeth don't seem to be bothering him, and then we'll have a couple of weeks where he is cranky all the time, refuses to eat solid food, and can't sleep. He has about 4 molars coming in right now at the same time and everyone is miserable!

So, my only advice is that when you think the teeth are really causing your baby pain, give him some tylenol or ibuprofen before bedtime and that will help him sleep longer. Since I don't like to medicate my son constantly, I usually judge by his crankiness factor during the day. If he is happy and playing without crying and whining all day, I don't bother with the meds at night. But if I have trouble consoling him all day and it's obvious his teeth are really causing trouble, I dose him with some pain killers before bed.

Good luck!!

My twins (8 months) seem to have started around the same time (4 months) with drooling and putting everything in their mouths including sucking on their fingers. We still don't have any teeth yet! My daughter will sleep through night but my son will still wake up 1-2 times sucking on his blanket like crazy. I think part of it is teething and part ?? I have tried teething rings but they don't care for those too much. I have tried natural teething tablets (got at drugstore.com but I am sure they sell elsewhere) and that seems to help. I have also tried ora-jel which didn't seem to have as much of an impact. Good luck! :)
