Teething - Mesa,AZ
I am pretty sure my 11 month old is teething again. (it seems to be a never ending thing with him). He hardly wants to eat anything during the day and is waking up at least three times during the night. He wakes up screaming and a bottle is the only thing that settles him down so he can fall back to sleep. This has been going on for about a week now. Any advice on how much longer this might go on? I am exhausted.
So What Happened?™
I purchased the teething tablets & they seem to be helping him. He is only awaking once during the night now (although he is sleeping in my bed - I am a softie). Thank you all for your advice - I had never heard of the teething tablets & they seem to work better than the baby orajel.

H.,
I know just what you are going through! With my little guy(3 boys) I used teething tablets, and frozen waffels. They really loved them! I also let them suck on a wash cloth that I put in the fridge for 1 minute. I hope this helps so you can get some rest!
Warm wishes,
C.

Hello... I totally understand my daughter is 23 months old and sometimes we still have the same problem. Give him tylenol before he is going to bed, that will help him. And you'll sleep better ;) Sometimes when my daughter is teething we change the texture of the food, gerbers or the ministars that they have work great.Good luck. Sylvia

H.,
You should try teething tablets and tyenol before going to bed. My little one has been cuting 2 teeth at a time - and this seems to help him a whole lot and lets him get some rest. Teething tablets are wonderful. Don't rub the orajel on his gums - it makes the gums harder for the teeth to come through.
I am a married/working mom and have a 8 month old. I know how precious sleep is. (HA HA :) )

If it were me, I would call the peditritian. There might be a better explaination of why he isn't eating during the day. It also sounds like he isn't getting enough to eat. Good Luck!

Mu daughter is 20 months old and on and off still teething. All I can recomment is infant tylenol the first time he wakes up and that should get him through the night. Is he running fever and is an ear infection out of the question? The screaming points more toward that than teething.

My mother always says that you can count on your child "teething and being miserable" until about the age of 12, or whenever they receive all their permanent teeth. My son was teething for a good year (starting around 4 mos), with never- ending drool that soaked him completely. He lived in bibs literally for 8 mos easily. A friend at work recommended homeopathic teething tablets (per her pediatrician recommendation with her own children). She had great success, so I tried them. They were a life saver! I made sure to have two to three bottles on hand in various places IE: diaper bag, medicine cabinet, etc. They disolve INSTANTATIOUSLY upon water--make sure your hands are dry (not sweaty)--so you won't have to worry about a young child choking--I used to give my son 2-3 tablets at bedtime and various amounts throughout the day, depending on how bothered he was. You can purchase these at any healthfood store and ALSO, I found them in most Walgreens---get the tablets, not the gel. They are all natural ingredients that help eliminate pain and discomfort--hope this helps you.--M. (Harrison is now 4)

Dear H.,
With my two kids, I would have never survived their teething without Motrin(if your child can take it) Also, it may be worthwhile to have the baby checked by your pediatrician in terms of other problems, including ear infections.
Otherwise, lots of cuddle time, icy teethers, biting biscuits(my kids thought they were great) Love and patience and take naps when they do, because you sacrifice your sanity without rest. Good luck and take care.

H., There are homeopathic teething tablets that dissolve instantly. They work really weel. We used them for our grandson and had no real problems. I guess teeting will go on for another year or so, then it will calm down. Talk to your doctor and see if you are allowe dto give him Ibuprofen, this will help with the gum irritation.

I have a 10 month old and 11yrs 4 month old. My youngest is also teething. Top tooth coming in. This is what I have discovered for me that works. I get her ready for bed(change diaper, pj's) I give her teething tablits. Can get them at just about any place. If you can not find them at a local grocery store. Go to a natural store that sells organic food mainly. Like Sprouts, Whole foods, Natures Alternitive. They are completely natural and work magic. So I follow the directs and give her that. If it is really bad then I also give her some Tylenol(b/c the tablits are natural it is not over dosing her) Then I give her a full eight ounce bottle and her father and I hold her. Well one of us holds her and the other is in front holding her as well so she has some real closeness. Cuddle time. Then we lay her down for night night time. This is what works best for us. Also we have now have a sheet over the blinds on her window to make it darker in her room. That became a huge delima for getting her to sleep the light. I am sure you will get allot of advise. I hope it helps you out. Let me know what works best for your son and you. I would like to know for my own future reference. It is normal though. If you have been giving him a bottle this week. You may want to consider taking him in to see the doctor. Allot of the time they get it some formula in their ears and then an infection start. Which would lead to not sleeping as well. Ear aches are very common with children who drink a bottle in the crib.
Take Care,
S.
