My son who is 14 y/o is interested in doing commercials and/or acting. Does anyone know how I can maybe start to investigate how I can get him started. I really cannot afford to spend too much money, i am a widow w/4 boys & i can barely make it each month. Both my youngest kids are in to sports and he is really interested in trying to do something in t.v. or maybe magazines or something. I would really appreciate if someone can point me to the right direction.

What can I do next?

good morning-
i am T. from T. ramos photography. your 14 yo needs to first create a comp card. this is a card about 5x7 w/a few different pictures of him on it along w/ his specs; weight, hight, eye color, age, etc. I charge $250 to take pictures for a comp card but would be more than happy to do it for nothing for your 14 y/o. the only problem is my schedule is tight and i won't be able to do it for a few weeks. after he gets his comp card made, he can go to open castings at various agencies. if you'd like, you can contact me at ###-###-#### or www.tammyramosphotography.com and we can discuss details. i hope this helps!
take care,
T.

My friend works at a modeling agency... P models it's in Boynton Beach. I don't know how much it costs to get started, but you can check out their page on myspace, or look them up... I know they are busy and always looking for new talent! Good luck!

Hi R.! I have a performing arts studio here in Boynton Beach and we offer acting classes for your 14 year old. We have a on-camera acting class on Wednesday nights that will teaching him all about auditioning for commercials, TV and film. The guy who teaches it, Frank George, is fabulous! He's great with the kids. They get filmed each week and discuss what worked and what didn't. Your son may also enjoy our Comedy Improvisation class on Friday nights, 5:30-6:30 p.m. That's a popular and fun class taught by my husband. Your son can check out any class for free. My website is www.standingoh.com and my cell phone # is ###-###-####.

R.,

Check this website: worldofkidsagency.com They only request a 4x6 or 5x7 picture. That would probably be your best bet as far as not spending too much money. Don't forget, if your son will be able to start in that business, he will need an agent. Stay strong and best of luck.

all I know is that any reputable agency will not make you spend a lot of money for photos for auditions- a poleroid should be enough!!!

http://www.worldofkidsagency.com/page3.html this particular agency is legitimate- see how they tell you NOT to send professional photos?

there are more but that's the only one I know of off of the top of my head...

R.,

I'm really sorry to hear about your husbands passing. My prayers are with you. To respond to your question I can ask my brother who started modeling, then went into radio commercials (a bit) to t.v. commercials, now movies. I did model for a short time and know for a fact that "NO" agency should ask you to pay upfront for anything (besides a professional photo album) for potential clients to view (unless things have changed which I doubt).

Money for an agency should never become a topic (unless they are telling you how much they will pay for an job for your son). As I stated I can check with my brother (who lives in California) and ask him what route your son can take. Also, let your son be aware that this is a very tough business and critics are just that so never take anything personal. There is no such thing as a perfect person some jobs just require a certain look. If he keeps his dreams and have the drive to go for it, it will happen. If you'd like you can contact me at ____@____.com luck!
