I'd love to start my 18 month old in swim lessons this summer. Any good recommendations and pricing would be appreciated. Thanks so much!

I HIGHLY recommend Gary Hall Pool in Garden Grove. Very close to the 22 and 405 interchange. Sign up through Garden Grove Rec. Center. The pool is very warm. Mommy and me classes are great. We aways had wonderful teachers.

Hi There! My daughter, who just turned 2, has been taking lessons at Nova Swim School for about 4 months now. It has been a really great experience. They have an excellent method of instruction and do private lessons. The cost is $200 for an 8 week session. This is for a private 15 minute lesson once a week. My daughter has learned to go under water, float to the surface and roll over into a back float. They really know what they are doing. It is located at Los Caballeros on Newhope between Slater and Warner. I actually drive there from Aliso Viejo for lessons. I am a school teacher too, and am really happy with the way they work with my daughter. They also offer a parent and me class, but I opted for the private lessons, since I really want my daughter learning to swim and am more confident that she will learn more when I am not in the pool with her. You can check out their web site at www.novaswimschool.com. Registration for the next session is right now, so if you are interested, call and get your spot before they are all full...it is a pretty popular place!

Well, I will add to the list. My daughter has been to a few different places and my favorite is the Janet Evans swim school in Fullerton. I don't know about the mommy and me but once your daughter has to swim on her own, this place is the best. The pool is heated and it is shallow which I cannot say enough about. My daughetr HATED holding on to the edge of some huge pool for dear life. This pool was shallow enough she could stand and splash and practice putting her head underwater by herself. It was a fantastic experience!

I can't speak highly enough about Aquatic Explorations in Los Alamitos. They have 15 minute private lessons in a pool heated to 90 degrees.

Similarily, Swim Safe is Seal Beach is also fabulous with 15 minute private lessons in a 90 degree pool. They are very successful teaching infants survival skills in the water.

I like Aquatic Explorations better, but both are well worth the money!

The Plunge in Brea offers lessons. Pre-registration is this Saturday and it's $55 per session (2 weeks) for non-Brea-residents. I can't make the pre-registration this weekend, but understand that there is registration on the Saturday that precedes each session, too, which I plan to try. I also heard, though, that last weekend during pre-registration for the Brea residents the line was around the corner, so we may be out of luck.

My son went to Austrailian Swim School in Fullerton from the time he was 9 months old (I think) till he was around 8. He went through all the levels from parent and me to the last level. The groups were no more than about 5. Austrailian Swim School rents lanes at Ballys and other gyms. I really liked the way they taught. There methods are exceptional. Google Austrailian Swim School to see locations.

Hope this helps.
