Seeking Swim Lessons in Whittier Area
I would appreciate it if anyone had any suggestions for swim lessons for 3 year olds in the Whittier area. Over the past two years we tried the YMCA and the city for swim lessons. We were definitely not impressed with the city's class and I am considering going back to the YMCA but I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions? I have heard that Whittier College offers swim classes but I have been unable to find any information online about it. If anyone has any contacts for that, I would appreciate that as well. Thanks!

La mirada is not too far and we have a great new place for swim lessons. It is splash, located behind the library and city hall, off la mirada blvd. Two of my 3 children have had lessons there and they loved it. Plus they keep the class sizes to a minimum.
Biola also offers swim classes. Good luck!
All the info is on line thru the city of la mirada.

Hi M.,
My daughter is going to be three in July so I have also been checking into this.
I wanted to let you know that Biola University teaches swim lessons and they are in La Mirada.
There phone number is ###-###-#### or you can go online to Biola Aquatics.
I hope this helps!

Whittier College: minimum age is 3yrs, informations for lessons down the page a way http://web.whittier.edu/athletics/WC-athletics-SportsCamp...
You could also try putting your information into this website and seeing what comes up. I didn't know your zip, etc and couldn't remember which cities are closer to you:

My sons are grown, but I gave them private lessons in an instructors pool in Anaheim. It was quite a drive, but she was so good with them, especially my middle son who was a very strong willed child and didn't want to get his face wet. She made a bargain with him: If he would work with her on putting his face in for the first few minutes, then she would teach other things the rest of the time. He learned the breast stroke arms and legs and swims with this most of the time with his head out to this day, but is a strong safe swimmer;) (He does know all the other strokes too now)

I'm not sure of any places in Whittier, but my child takes private lessons at the local jr. college. I found that she benefitted more from private lessons. We have developed a relationship with one particular instructor and this will be our fourth year swimming!!

Hi M.,
I was just looking into the same thing yesterday. Check out the Plunge in Brea. Non-residents pay $55 for a two-week session from what I understand. Pre-registration is the 14th. The web-site http://www.ci.brea.ca.us/article.cfm?id=1784 has all the information.

Hi M.,
I have my four and six year old at the YMCA and I think they are doing well. At this age, they primarily focus on creating comfort in the water. Formal swim lessons are not recommended until age five at least. They do private lessons too if you like. As far as I know Whittier College only has a summer camp, but I will double check and let you know.
Good luck
