Summer Trip to Corpus Christi? or Maybe Gulf Shores, Mobile, AL?

We've been considering taking a trip down to Corpus this summer with our son. He's always wanted to see the beach. I have only been to Galveston and that was many years ago. We had also heard good things about Gulf Shores and Mobile, but I'm thinking we may got to Corpus because of the length of the drive. However, I'd love to hear any thoughts or experiences on any of these places or others.

I've been looking at hotels and condos in Corpus, but I've kind of overwhelmed. I'm trying to look at some decently reviewed ones. Again, any suggestions would be great. Same goes for food, things to do with kids, etc.

TIA!

Stay in Port Aransas, Day trip to Corpus to visit the aquarium. It is a very neat aquarium, very good for younger kids. Day trip to Rockport. Rockport has a very nice beach. It is great if you have little kids because there are no waves. There is a good playground there, as well as bathroom facilities, etc. However, the fact there are no waves also make you feel like you are at the lake. We stayed in Rockport for a week two years ago. I REALLY missed the waves and surf. In Port Aransas, there is a nice playground area right when you get off of the ferry. They have expanded the bird watching area with lots of trails and they have added bathrooms. Shopping is pretty much standard beach town shopping. You can go bay fishing, deep sea fishing and dolphin cruises. If you want to stay within walking distance of restaurants, etc, try the Tropic Island. We usually stay at the Courtyard. It is a couple of blocks from the beach and is a little bit farther out of town (A1A), but there is a convenience store on the corner and they have a nice pool and picnic area. That said, we also drove to New Orleans one time and drove into Bay St. Louis. Very cute little town and really pretty beach. We didn't get to stay for long, but I would love to go back.

We went to Gulf Shores 2 years ago and are going back this year. I am not a "beach" kind of vacationer, but I have to say it was so fun! My girls really enjoyed the pool at the condo and were getting used to the ocean when we left. :) We use vrbo.com to look for a condo. We stayed at The Lighthouse. Right on the beach. Can't say enough good things about it! Never been to Corpus tho. Good luck!

I haven't been to Corpus, but I would definitley choose Gulf Shores or Orange Beach over Galveston. The beaches can't even come close in comparison.

I grew up in Mobile, wouldn't suggest going there, but the beaches are about an hour away.

There is a lot to do, just depends on your interests and age of your son.

I've been to both, and LOVE Gulf Shores.
It's been a while since I was at either place but from what I remember there was a lot of seaweed on the beach when we were at corpus.
Both places we rented a condo.
