Hi Moms,
We are heading off to the snow in New Zealand next month. My son is now walking (he wasn't the last time we went to the snow). I wondered what sort of footwear works well for an 18 mo old. He is fairly steady on his feet. I want to make sure his feet are warm enough but that he can still get around. Does anyone have any advice about what might be suitable? Thanks

Thanks for all the advice and suggestions. I will see what I can find. It is so helpful to have ideas about brands and styles that have been tried and tested. Thank you!

They make snow boots in tiny little toddler sizes - check on eBay and buy them used! We started taking my kids to the snow when they were tiny, and I've always just bought hand-me-downs online. I think last year I paid $4 for a pair of almost new snow boots. I went to REI and bought their warmest wool socks, and between the boots and socks, I think my kids had warmer feet than I did!

Have a great trip!

LL Bean makes great snowboots for toddlers - warm washable felt liners and light weight but tall enough to protect from snow coming over the top. We got ours when our little one was about 18 months. We live in Tahoe so they had to really work.

I have a pair of ECCO blue and yellow snow boots that are super light weight. They are a size 7 or 8. My son wore them at 18 mos. while we were in Wisconsin this winter. They are easy to get on and off and easy walk in as well. I bought them at the Striderite outlet in Folsom. You can have them if you want them ###-###-####. I live in Sacramento/Elk Grove.

E.,
We took our daughter at 15 months to the snow and bought her snow boots. They were heavy for her she could barely walk in them. Then she had problems with them staying on.
If we went today, she is now 18 months, I would try the boots again and take a pair of the gloves/mittens that go over there shoes for back up.
Hope this helps and have fun !!

I suggest rubber boots AKA Wellingtons, galoshes, or rain boots. Find a great pair he can wear with really thick socks or pull over some warm shoes (like those lambs wool slippers). It should keep his feet warm and dry and his legs practically up to his knees dry. Plus, they are not super expensive. YOu can buy them overseas quite easily (probably walk into any shoe store in NZ) or you can find them at Target. The Target ones are more "fashionable" but should work just as well.
Happy travels!
