Best Snow Boots (For Me)

I live in CA so I don't have a lot of need for snow boots and there isn't a huge variety to choose from in the stores here. I will be going up to the mountains a few times this winter so my son can learn to ski. What brand of snow boots do you like the best and why? Where do you typically buy them?

My foot is medium to wide, so something that runs narrow will not work for me.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Some great recommendations! Looks like I will try Sorel first and then see what Columbia and LL Bean have to offer. I do live near an REI so I'll see what they have.

Suzy B - I used to ski (even own my own pair) but it's been a long time. I have a 3 year old who isn't ready to ski this year so I'll need good boots to play in the snow with her. : )

I have snow boots that I LOVE. They keep my feet so nice and warm and dry. They are Sorrel brand. They were $80 but they will last pretty much forever. I live in VA and we do get some snow, but in the 3 years I've lived here there hasn't been very much (maybe just a couple feet total in the 3 years) but I know the year before I moved here there was a huge blizzard where they got like 3 or 4 feet with in a couple days! So, I know it will happen again someday and my feet will be prepared :)

I personally like Sorrel or Boggs, but I live in Alaska so my needs are different then yours. If it is just for the occasional ski day you can get away with something lighter and cheeper

I have the Sorel Snowlion. They are rated for fourty below. Very warm and very comfy, but not terribly pretty. Sorel does make some more fashionable boots as well, but mine are purely practical. Mine are from Mark's Work Warehouse. I don't know if they are in the US.

Get some Muck boots.
They are super comfortable and come in a nice variety of colors.
They'll really keep your feet warm and dry.

I second sorel's-warm and comfy! However, something to consider, how much are you wanting to spend? If you are truly just going a few times and just traipsing through some snow, try Target. Anyhow, columbia has some winter sport boots that are light weight. I buy at least a half a size up to get warmer socks in them. I have seen columbia at dick's sporting goods, sorel's at cabellas. There is also north face. Better yet, go skiing-it's a fun sport!
Added: oops, I didn't mean to assume..... apologize for not looking at the ages of your kids. I always look at snow two ways, either hibernate or get out and play. Have fun this winter!

I've had a pair of LL Bean boots like the ones below for 10 years with no signs of wearing out. And that's in New England, where I pull them out of the closet in November and put them away in April. I have a wide foot and they're very comfortable. Having good winter boots has totally changed my approach to winter. I wear these into work and then change into dress shoes at my desk because it's nice to have my feet stay warm and dry and not slip while walking. I can go in the snow, sit comfortably through indoor and outdoor hockey games, etc. This particular model isn't stylish but I don't care for style when I'm using the snowblower or shovel.

LL Bean has a good selection, great service, and a lifetime guarantee. If you buy from them they'll be the last pair of snow boots that you buy. They have ones that are prettier than these.

Hope that helps and have fun!

I have a wide foot, and find that Sorrel makes boots that are comfortable and fit me well, and are practical for snow - not just for show.

Are you anywhere near an REI store? They carry Sorel boots and lots of other quality brands. Everyone who works there is very good about helping you choose the right product for your needs. (I sound like I work for them, but I just really love that store!)
