Strange Period

So I had been breastfeeding for 10 months now and have been on the mini-pill. I haven't had a period (which my dr and 3 nurses have said is fine) until now. It came for 3 days and then it came again 10 days later for 3 days. Hasn't come back in about 3 weeks, but I still think it's strange. Is this normal?

What can I do next?

Hi A.,

Yes it's normal for your cycles to be irregular while bfing. If you're interested in preventing pregnancy or just wanting to get to know your body better you could check into Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler

this was totally normal for me with my first. He nursed till he was 2 and I had no return of cycle till he was 14 months. When my cycles did return they were all over the place (i.e. 10 days, 40 days, 21 days) essentially from what I have learned is as you child's nursing patterns change your body may or may not ovulate (i.e. if you child is not nursing you will ultimately go back to normal cycles but if you child is nursing a lot you may not have a cycle for a long time)...

I was really successful using acupuncture to regulate my cycles...

It could be the mini-pill doesn't respond well to your chemical body. For some women they gain weight while on the pill. This is because the pill doesn't mix well with their body chemically. Are you working out and very active? I've had friends that won't have a period while engaging in sports or lots of work outs. Ask the doctor. If you have to go to another doctor to get a second opinion. I can see why you would be concerned.

If you're still breastfeeding, the strange is normal. You will probably continue to have irregular periods for a few months, just make sure you continue to use birth control if you don't want to get pregnant.
