Steroids, Anyone?

I'm wondering if anyone knows if taking steroids (as a treatment for bronchitis) can affect your periods? I've just finished taking 2 rounds of prednisone and now my period is late (and no, there's no chance I'm pregnant!). Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

What can I do next?

thank you to all who gave responses - the mayo clinic website was particularly helpful! Finally finally got my period yesterday, after 37 days (I felt like I was about to explode!). I never knew steriods could affect me that way. Appreciate the insight!

I have taken them a couple of times didnt notice any period change though but didnt feel good enough to care. if you had 2 rounds you were real sick and it may have effected your periods either the steroids or the fact that you were so sick may have effected it.

yes it can effect your cycle I believe prednisone is just like taking any hormone type of medician. excess hair growth, weight gain im not sure if its anabolic or estragene based. but dont worry things will get back to normal after it has cycled out of your body.

Here's a good link:

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/steroids/HQ01431

Basically, it says:

"When taking oral corticosteroids longer term, you may experience:
Menstrual irregularities"

(Are you taking orals? Would 2 rounds be considered longer term?)

Any time you're sick enough to need something as strong as Steroids, it can effect your period. Antibiotics can, too. You should be fine - but you can always ask your doctor.
