Help with Sick Child

I am needing some advice with my sons health. He is 3 years old, will be 4 in August. He has allergies to food, pets and outdoor irritants. He also has asthma. It seems like he is always sick. Either a virus, strep throat, ear infections pretty much the common things that children get - but it seems like he ALWAYS has something. Winter time is the worse. His asthma is under control with medication - we did have a rough winter though and he was on Prednisone 4 times from about Nov. - March. He sees an allergist and a dermatologist regularly,...

Despairing Mom Seeking Advice on Severe Eczema Treatments (Natural, Preferred)

My 6 month old daughter has been bouncing from doctor to doctor for her eczema. It culminated recently in a three day stay in the hospital because it began to impact her breathing. (We've been told and read that eczema, allergies and asthma go hand in hand.) We have tried every possible treatment and lack of treatment out there. We've changed everything that could possibly be causing her an allergic reaction. Her daycare is careful to only use our products, blankets, clothes, etc. When she was in the hospital, her eczema cleared up...

Hello, I am seeking advice from other Mom's that have experience with young Children with Asthma. My son who was born with Asthma has been on Allergy medicine and (an Albuteral inhaler as needed) from birth, He is now 9 years old and doing great in school, very little Asthma attacks! Now that we have moved here, his allergies really hit a High and has triggered his Asthma attacks more frequently, So we are on a regumine of allergy pills and now also added Advair, (which is a steroid on a daily dose about 5 months now) But this has been...

Another Ear Infection: 3Rd Set of Tubes or Steroids???

Its eartube decision time - again. My son has another ear infection (I think) just three weeks after his last one. He is 2.75 and has been suffering from frequent ear infections since his 1st birthday. He got his first set of tubes at 18 months, they worked for 9 months with no infections, and then he blew one and then the other out in the spring. His ENT took the watchful waiting approach, but with 5 infections in four months we put in new tubes. He has had infections in both ears since the tubes (in July), and then three weeks ago...

Best Eczema Treatment

My son has always had bad skin. He's 20 months now and has a large circle on his left cheek that has really bad eczema (nothing anywhere else). We've been through the standard line up (Aloe, Aveeno, prescriptions, etc) and nothing seems to work. I'm waiting for the dr to call me back and hopefully prescribe a new medication but has anyone had any luck with any over the counter creams / lotions?

Steroid Shot for Lung Development

I have been on semi-bedrest since I was about 26 weeks for having contracations, not dilating just contractions! I was in and out of the hospital for 2 weeks having to go in for contractions and was given medications to stop them! Well I am now on meds at home however my dr is planning on giving me a steroid shot when I am 31 weeks for the babies lungs just in case he is early! Keep in mind my 1st baby was 6 weeks early so there is a chance this one will come early too! I was just wondering if any of you had steroid shots for lung...

Sensitive Skin or Latex Allergy?

A couple times the day care has called saying that my son (18 months) looks like he has a few hives - normally neck/face area. We couldn't find the source of the irritation. A few weeks ago, he had tubes put in his ears, and on his back, where the electrode pads were located, you could see the outline in a red irritated shape for about 4 days post surgery. Then, last week a friend bit him. (Gotta love this age...) We put some neosporin and a band-aid over the spot before he went to bed. In the morning, I removed the band-aid, but we...

What Products to Use for an Infant Who Has a Rash

Hi I was wondering what products many of you recommend for an infant (2 month old) who has a very bad sandpaper like rash all over her body. Her back is actually peeling today since her skin has been so dry. I did take her to her Pediatrician who ruled out any illness. He stated it may be sensitive skin or she may be having a reaction to a food that I am eating as she also has very bad reflux along with it. I use dreft detergent on all clothes/linens that come into contact with her. I use Eucerin on her skin which does seem to help a...

Coping with a Strong Willed 2-1/2 Year Old During Chemotherapy

Okay here's my problem. My 2-1/2 year old daugher was diagnosed with Leukemia back in September. From the moment she was diagnosed we had to live in the hospital for the next 45 days for her first two phases of chemotherapy treatment. Prior to this she was a very happy, well adjusted little girl. She would take naps and go to bed at night with no issues, her only problem was sharing. Being an only child she didn't have much luck with sharing with her cousins. While we were in the hospital she basically got what she wanted, whenever...

Hair Falling Out???

I am 36 years old and about 2 months ago my hair has been coming out in the shower by the handful and another handful while I am blow drying and styling my hair. I immediately stopped coloring my hair and began using Nioxin a shampoo for thinning hair. It has lessened the amount a little but hasn't stopped my hair falling out. Only a few people have noticed but you can really tell if you touch it. Also, the only medication I take is BC pills and I stopped taking those about six months ago. Has anyone else experienced this and know what...

Should Newborns Be Given Steroids?

I know this sounds like a dumb question, but here is what happened: My second daughter was born last week. The day of her birth, the pedriatic nurse said that my daughter wasn't breathing as well as she'd like, probably because there was inflamation in her nose from procedures after the birth (personally, I thought it was because the maternity room we were in was hot, dry, and stuffy.) The nurse said a dose of the glucocorticosteroid, prednisolone, in my daughter's nose should clear up the inflamation and return her breathing to normal...

I have some symptoms that I have had since I was a teen such as extreme fatigue, however over the past couple of years I have felt like I have aged like crazy, I am sore and stiff, my memory has goten bad, and I have horrible skin on my chest, I have found lately that I can't take sulfa drugs because they make me incredibly sick, and I just feel sore and achy most of the time. My doc referred me to an ENT to look closer at my thyroid, he ran blood work and my ANA is positive with a titer of 1:640. So as of now, my ENT is going to send me...

Alternative Health Care Question

My son is 15 months old and has constant colds; he wheezes when he gets them. His pediatrician prescribed QVar and Albuterol - 2 inhaled medicines -and she said he'll need to do QVar for the rest of the winter. Are there any alternative approaches to colds and wheezing? I don't like giving him chemicals repeatedly. I don't like seeing him sick and feeling crummy. I want to do right by my son.

Steroids for Fetal Lung Development?

The goods new is the baby is healthy and above average in weight, however, the drs. are quite certain I will have an early csection, due to complications/high risk and have talked about giving me steroids to speed up the baby's lung development (I A. 29.5 weeks right now). If you were given steroids to speed up lung development, can you tell me what the experience was like? Any side effects for the baby (or you)? I really do understand that this is for the benefit of the baby, in the event he comes early, it gives him the best chance of...
