Spotting While Pregnant?

Ok, so I am currently pregnant with baby number FIVE:) We could not be happier, but I am having some spotting. I think I am about 7 weeks pregnant, and it is just light spotting every other day or so. Like, mostly just when I wipe. It is red blood, with a little mucous (sorry if that is too descriptive, just thought it would help if I were specific) I have really never done that before, and I called my OB this morning, as I noticed a bit more blood this time( still only when I wipe though) and all he said was to get some rest, and come in next week for reassurance. I am certainly feeling pregnant, I am nauseous, and extremely tired!! And, I really dont think this is a miscarraige, but again, I have never had one so I would not know. I am not having any cramping at all, and this has been going on through out this week. First of all, does staying off my feet really make a huge difference (I do have 4 other kids:)? I mean, I am willing to do it if it will help, for sure, but does it change things? Anyone else had bleeding like this? Any thing you can tell me would be much appreciated, I just want to make sure I do the best that I can for this baby, as well as me and the rest of my family. Thanks a bunch, and again, sorry for all the personal info. ~A.~

When I was pregnant with my daughter (now 5) I began bleeding (red blood) and also cramping at the same time. I was about 2 1/2 months along. I went to the doctor because I just knew I was having a miscarriage (due to some passing of tissue) Sorry if graphic as well. After what seemed like FOREVER of the doctor trying but not finding a heartbeat I was ready to tell her to give up and tell me the news when out of nowhere the room filled up with the loud sound of her heartbeat! Beating strong and fast... tears just fell from my face. After more tests, turns out I had a cyst on my ovary that was just breaking apart and that's what caused the bleeding and that's what I was passing. So anything can happen in pregnancies. And I never really had pregnancy sypmtoms to go off of, like I don't feel like I'm pregnant or my boobs feel normal, etc. And one more thing, my sister bled her whole first trimester (I don't mean spotted, I mean like a 24/7 period) and went to the doctor weekly to make sure she was still pregnant and each time, there was a baby with a good heartbeat. Trust your instincts. Good luck!

I had some spotting with my daughter. I went to the emergency room and they ran tests...did a blood test and an ultrasound (this was over 18 yrs ago). Their recommendation was pelvic rest. They also suggested to rest and take it easy. I only had 2 other children but was in the middle of a move to Alaska from North Carolina so that wasn't always that easy to do. Try not to worry and be tense. I had an appt. every couple of weeks until the bleeding stopped. It did eventually resolve on its own. Good luck and my prayers are with you.

Hi A.,
I had spotting throughout my preqnacy with my first daughter. I was told to rest as much as possible and try not to stress much. Each pregnacy is different.
Congrats and God Bless

I have had spotting in the first trimester with every pregnancy (4), and all but one ended in miscarriage. BUT, with my daughter, I never lost pregnancy symptoms (namely, tender breasts). So if you still feel pregnant, I'd say that's a good sign. For me, when I wake up one morning and my breasts feel normal (while still around 9 weeks), I know it's over. Also, after that, the blood is alot more than just on the paper when I wipe, and I did not have nausea with the 3 that I lost, only with my daughter.

I don't think there is anything you can do if it's not a good pregnancy, but it doesn't hurt to rest and not do anything that could make things worse.

I hope it's a good pregnancy, and that I haven't discouraged you. Everything will probably be fine, and spotting in the first trimester is normal alot of the time.

I'm praying for a healthy baby for you!

I had some spotting with my son too. It was in the beginning and eventually went away. Definitely check with your ob to be sure everything is ok. Congrats on number 5!

Hello A.,

you need to stay off your feet and lifting (that includes kids) is out of the question (at least for the next few days). if you need to be moving around during the week, at least try to stay in bed this weekend and hopefully it will stop by monday. Good luck and God Bless you with the new addition to your family. Congratulations! ~C.~
