Spanx or the Like...

I'm fat again & will be a bridesmaid in Feb. I'll do my best to lose the weight (gets harder w/ each child) but have always wanted a firming undergarment. I saw an infomercial for Slim-n-lift a couple years back & was impressed that it went to the knee. I looked up spanx online cause that's what "the celebs" seem to rave about, but they don't seem to cover as much area. If I just get a belly one then the fat just squishes out to my hips. Do I need suspender things so it doesn't roll down?
Please don't bother answering if you're a size 8 or under, I'll be lucky to get down to a 10, & I need help from my mama's who have real fat like me not just a pooch.
Also, the dress is very modest (like I always dress) so it's not a problem for the garment to go to my knee or have shoulder straps.

What can I do next?

so, size 10 is fat? I'm a 12-16 depending on the brand and feel pretty normal. I do have this: http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/181-###-###-####-###... from right after I had my baby, when the tummy was at it's squishiest.

I am not going to answer your question, but rather focus on the other issue. You said you are "fat again". And that you have until February. That is nearly 5 months! You already know what it takes for you to lose the inches - because you've done it before.

If you look for a slimming undergarment now, and in the next 5 months you lose weight...the undergarment will likely be too big and seriously uncomfortable.

Me - I vary between a size 8, 10, 12. Depending on the time of year, month, etc. But I know what to do for my body to lose a quick 5-10 lbs if I have something coming up. There are certainly times that I call myself fat. And yes, I do have a few slimming undergarments.

But your health is what you should be focusing on right now. In 4 months, when the wedding prep is getting closer, then go to the department store and try on the different options...if you still need to...

Here are my recommendations:

TODAY - go through your home, purse, desk - and make your home a NO JUNK ZONE.

When I stick to a low processed food and minimal dairy diet, I slim quickly. Which means I can eat everything else! As much fresh produce as I want, which includes high fat foods like avocados and nuts...yummy! As much lean protein as I want...I stick to fish, chicken, beans, hummus, and the occasional lean beef.

What I try not to eat unless at an occasion like a party....
White flour
High Fructose Corn Syrup
Candy
Cookies
Cakes
Chips
Soda, Juice, Flavored Waters
Hydrogenated Oils
Dairy

I found a chocolate protein powder that mixes well with water and tastes
fantastic. It makes wonderful smoothies in the morning:

5 ice cubes
1 scoop powder
frozen fruit
2 tblsp coconut or almond milk

I eat a lot of stir fry...
brown rice
meat
veggies
oil
spices

I am not afraid of carbs - you can make potatoes in many ways that do not include butter, sour cream, bacon, etc. And sweet potatoes are a great variation. Whole Grain breads are wonderful and help keep your intestinal tract working properly. Try whole grain toast with cubed avocado smeared on top with fresh ground sea salt.)

Bake them at 300 for 1 hour. Let cool a while. Slice them into wedges. Then pour olive oil and spices on top. Broil them in the oven until the edges are crispy. Salt them and you have a great finger food!

Try Quinoa - cooks just like rice. Has a nutty flavor to it. Replaces rice or noodles in your favorite dishes. It's high in fiber and protein. (Two nigts ago I used leftover cooked quinoa to make a fried mexican rice with olive oil, salsa, mushrooms and onions - it was fantastic!)

Get your cardio in. Diet first, exercise second. Plus, experts say that 20 minutes of walking a day can cure mild depression or mood swings!

Your fat will come off as it wishes, but you can target those areas you want to. Like your arms or calves since those will likely be more visible in your dress. Do lots of pushups and three position calf raises. Get a small set of dumbells and do bicep curls, overhead pushes, dead lifts, at times when you are normally sitting still, like when watching your favorite shows.

You'll feel great and your body will be slimmer!

Best of luck!

Spanx has a variety of styles and several do go to the knee! They even have them that are capris and go all the way down to mid-calf! The best thing about Spanx is that they don't have leg elastic that cuts your thighs in half, causing a nasty bulge right above your knee! They also do the same job, but don't "suffocate" and give you that bound-up feeling.

***And Lane Bryant is selling Spanx now if you need larger sizes! Before Spanx came out, I was a big Nancy Ganz fan, but Spanx is a million times better!

Hi,

I hate undergarments! But I have to wear them on occasion-- I tried spanx and didn't like them-- they hurt! and are way too constricting! I got my things at Lane Bryant and Kohls. I liked theirs because they are meant for larger women-- and the price was much more reasonable than others. I can't remember the brand, but I would check those places first. Good luck!

QVC sells something call Lipo in a box and it comes in many different styles. From experience the one piece undergarments are so difficult to go to the bathroom. I prefer the one that comes way past your waist (to prevent a waste roll) up to your bust line. They are so comfortable and are easy when you have to use the bathroom.

Let's just say I more than meet your size requirements. :-)

First, I would be worried about wearing undergarments to a wedding because, you are talking about wearing this all day. I would definately get it ahead of time, and wear it for awhile each day, till you build up to something like wearing it all day. I have only worn them for short affairs -- a cocktail party, or something like that.

Second, I would take the dress to a good tailor -- they are a large girls best friend. He or she may be able to help with adjustments so that you look great without too much in the way of undergarments.

Good Luck!

this really is not an answer to your fat question but might help you a bit more than just answering your fat question.

remember the bride loves you or else she would have picked someone else to be in the wedding. Right?

suggest to her to go with you dress shopping prior to the big day that all the girls go. you know what day I mean.

the 2 of you find dresses that would look good on you. --- trust me there are many out there of course pick several. --- of course the secret is the other girls do not have clue the 2 of you went on this day. when the day comes that all the girls go to get their dresses you and the bride already knows what dresses will look good on you.

do not stress on the fact you are fat. it doesn't help.

this will help with your tears that I know will happen.

by the way my sister got married 10 days after I had my last child and at the time I weighed over 200 lbs. so I certainly was not small and of course my sister loved me and wanted me to look the best I could. we did this--- (her future sister in law was tiny and could wear anything so we went and narrows down the choicesthat would look good on all of us. fat or not we all looked great when picture time came around

Seriously. Lipo-in-a-Box. The shoulder to knee (or even down to the calves) one piece with or without underwire. It's awesome. You can get it on Amazon.

I feel your pain.
I saw two things in this week's Kohl's flyer that caught my eye--I liked them because you can wear your own bra (which is always an issue for me when I have to try to stuff my boobs into O. of those O. piece thingees while I'm stuffing everything else in as well! LOL).
They are:
1. Flexees Wear Your Own Bra Shaping Slip
2. Maidenform Control It Wear Your Own Bra Firm Control Singlet.

Also--Target sells Assets which are much like Spanx but cheaper, but I've never bought Spanx brand so I don't know how they compare quality wise...but for O. day, they are cheaper.

I have the Spanx that goes from just under my boobs to right above my knee. I love it. There is no fat squishing anywhere, its all sucked in. I thought it would roll down too, but surprisngly it stayed up. I originally bought it for a wedding, but have used it under plain on blue jeans (no more muffin top lol), dresses, skirts, etc. I suggest you go try a pair on over underwear and see what you think. I also opted to get one size smaller then my normal size because I don't wear underwear under it, and its form fitting, so no need to have a little wiggle room like regular clothes. Totally worth the money!

I love my spanx! I tried a different brand sold at Macy's and I didn't find it to be constrictive enough for my tastes...unlike Molly I prefer to have my fat squished into submission. :)

You can get different sizes that target different areas. I have ones that are tights and come all the way up to my boobs. They also have, get ready for it...a crotch flap so you can pee without taking them down! No joke! Of course you'd have to go without undies for that, but I'm not opposed! I would say go check them out and find the fit/shape that is the best for you.

Try them on for sure before the wedding day just to make sure they work how you want, but I wouldn't want to wear them around in case they'd get too stretched out before their big moment, but that's just me!
