Sore Breasts

hi.I am a newly pregnant mother of 2 girls expecting my third child.I am (i think)8 or 9 weeks along.I have a dr appointment at the end of the month to actually find out how far along I really am.But I am experiencing breast tenderness that is unbearable.I have had two other children and neither pregnancies has caused me this much discomfort.I normally have small breasts but I feel so hugh already and they are extremely teder and feel engorged already???I never use to wear bras because I really didn't need one and since I found out I am pregnant I have started wearing one.they ache all the time but especially at night when I try to sleep.any suggestions would be helpful.

What can I do next?

Hi M., you can try warm compresses to help with the soreness, a good fitting supportive bra will help as well. This just goes to show you that each and every pregnancy is completely different! Best wishes.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! The one thing I wanted to mention was to try wearing a support bra at night when you sleep. You know, like the "comfort bras" they advertise in the paper inserts.....very light support, snaps in the front or an over-the-head style but it may help you feel more comfortable at night. I would think the tenderness is from the hormonal changes in your body right now. Hope this helps.

I always had extremely sore breasts during the first part of my pregnancy (all three times) I found that high impact sports bras helped best - kept them from moving even a little bit, and from me bumping them. Wal Mart has some very inexpensive ones if you'd like to give it a try.

I don't know why but mine hurt so much more and right away with the third pregnancy also. The best thing I did was go to Destination Maternity and have them measure me for the right size bra. Then I bought a bunch of the most comfortable ones and wore them around the clock! Good luck.

Hi M.,
Just a note to let you know you are not alone. I am 10 weeks pregnant and cry putting ona bra, it hurts so bad. I started wearing sports bras and feel better. I even sleep in them. They seem to work the best. Hope it helps.

I had the same problem with my pregnancy-- I couldn't wear the top half of my seatbelt, they hurt so bad. Even the shower was excruciating. It will probably get better between 12-16 weeks. Sleep in an exercise bra, go to a good lingerie shop and get a bra fitting, and make sure you're not eating very much salt. It will probably get better soon.

I would buy a bra that does not have a underwire and sleep in it. i did this after i had my son. the nurse recommended it since they get sore after the baby comes.
You need to remember that the body acts differently to each pregnancy. Sometimes you having morning sickness and sometimes you don't. Good luck with everything and congratulations.

Every pregnancy can be completely different. Sore breasts are not unusual in pregnancy, especially early on. Sounds like you're having some fun hormones this time around. One thing that may help at night is sleeping bras. I used those for my triplet pregnancy when my breasts were killing me. I got mine at JCPenney since I couldn't find them at any less expensive stores. But they're so worth it, and you can wear them as long as you need after birth as well.
