Some Green Bean Dish -- Any Ideas?!

I need a green bean dish of some sort to prepare for Thursday. I've looked at allrecipes.com and have found basically the same one -- green beans, cream of mushroom, french's fried onions & cheese but I was wondering if anyone had a different recipe. I personally don't care for green beans but thought I'd please my guests by whipping up something different. Thanks

What can I do next?

I like to do the Williams Sonoma green beans from their Thanksgiving cookbook.
2 lb. green beans, trimmed & halved on the diagonal
5 tbsp. butter
1 c. chopped pecans

Boil a large pot of water. Salt the water, add beans and cook until crisp-tender, about 4-5 minutes.

Drain & transfer to a bowl of ice water. Let cool 1 minute. Drain again & pat dry.

In a large frying pan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add pecans & cook, stirring often, until the nuts are browned & fragrant, about 5 minutes. Add beans & toss to coat with the butter. Add 3/4 tsp. salt and 1/2 tsp. pepper, cover partially, and cook, tossing & stirring occasionally, until the beans are heated through, another 5-6 minutes.

Taste & adjust the seasoning with salt & pepper. Serve hot.

Mskes 8-10 servings.

I like to top green beans with a lemony almond topping. Cook your green beans however you like them (steamed, boiled, etc.) Heat some slivered almonds in a frying pan until they start to brown a little and smell really good. (Keep them moving in the pan so they don't burn.) Then at the last minute, squeeze some lemon over the almonds and turn off the heat. (Either half a lemon or a whole one, depending on how much juice you need and how many beans you have.) You can have the lemon juice squeezed ahead of time and just pour it over the almonds, if that's easier. When the juice hits the hot pan, it should sizzle quite a bit, and then calm down. Just pour it over the beans, and serve. It looks kind of nice with all the almonds on top of the beans. They'll naturally get stirred up as people start serving beans.

This looks nice if you use whole green beans so they're long, and have them all lined up and stacked on a platter. Impressive looking, but super easy. It's a nice light alternative to the usual green bean casserole.

Here's one that I found on a Grandma's Kitchen recipe card,I've never made it but it looks good.
Prep time: 20-30 minutes
Cook time 20 -30 minutes
Serves 6

1 1/2tbsp butter
3 Tbsp all-purpose flour
1 1/2 C. Milk
3 to 4 teaspoons dry ranch-style salad dressing mix
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
1 C. chopped onion
2 Cloves galic, minced
1 1/2 cups sliced fresh mushrooms (you could probalby leave these out if you don't like them)
1 1/4 pounds fresh green beans, cooked until crisp-tender
1 C fresh breadcrumbs, toasted

Step 1:
To mak white sauce, melt butter in small sauce pan over low heat. Stir in flour; cook 1 to 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Using wire whisk, stir in milk; bring to a boil. Cook, whisking constantly, 1 to 2 minutes or until thickened. Stir in dressing mix and white pepper; set aside

Step 2: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray medium skillit with nonstick cooking spray; heat over a medium-high heat. Add onon and Garlic; cook and stir 2-3 minutes or until tender. Remove half of the onion mixture; set aside.

Step3:

Add mushrooms to onion mixture remaining in skillet and cook about 5 mintues or until mushrooms are tender. Combine mushroom mixture, green beans and white sauce in 1 1/2-quart asserole. Combine bread crumbs with reserved onion mixture; srinkle over casserole. Bake, uncovered, until heated through, abourt 20 to 30 minutes

This is super easy and even the kids like them. Per pound of green beans (fresh) chop 3 slices of bacon - fry until crisp. Remove the bacon from the pan with a slotted spoon - to the bacon grease add 1/2 cup chopped onions and cook until soft. Add grean beans to pan along with enough ckicken broth to almost cover them. Bring to a boil - cover pan, reduce heat and simmer until tender (about 20 minutes). Remove lid and let chicken stock reduce by 1/2 - stir bacon pieces back into grean beans before serving. This dish is easy to multiply to accomadate however many servings you need - no worries about exact measuring either - it always turns out delicious!

Until I moved to the US (I am Canadian) I had never heard of Green Beans Almondine (the recipe you keep coming across) Anyways my mom always fixed a simple dish I always loved.
Its just a can of green beans (drained very well) put in oven safe dish, sprinkle on a cup of slivered almonds and a cup of mozzarella cheese and bake until the cheese is melted and a bit brown. Simple

I got a couple of ideas for you.
Greens beans, sauteed with butter, garlic powder and bacon. Let the bacon get nice and crispy...sure to please just about anyone.
The other is green beans with almonds. Again, cook the green beans with a little butter and add slivered almonds. Nice crunch and tastes real yummy too.

Landolakes.com has the best recipes. All are kitched tested with photos and give very clear instructions. Every recipe I make from there gets a ton of compliments and I always have to forward them on!

bettycrocker.com is also good. I like kitchen tested recipes from major commercial kitchens because it takes all of the guesswork out. All of the recipes you get on cooks.com or allrecipes are submitted by "regular" people and I find that directions aren't very clear.

Or try foodnetwork.com. I think Sandra Lee recently made a good looking green bean dish on her Thanksgiving show that involved green beans, half and half, and sautéed onions and bacon. Looked really good to me!

If you are using fresh (not canned) green beans, then I would cook them til they were crisp and hot. Steaming is easier to achieve this texture. Then pour Country Italian salad dressing over them. Gosh, think I will have to go make some now! LOL!

1/4 c. grated parmesan cheese

Cook green beans until just tender. Drain. Toss with dry salad dressing mix and butter. Pour into shallow casserole dish and sprinkle with cheese. HEat in oven before serving.

I have a green bean dish I really love that's very different.

You use fresh green beans. (Enough to cover a cookie sheet with one layer.)
Wash and snap your beans, then toss them in a bowl with a clove or two of garlic, a good splash of olive oil, and a handful or two of pine nuts.
Lay it out on your pan, and roast in the oven at 350 for...shoot...I don't know. I keep an eye on them until the beans are tender and I can smell the nuts toasting.
Then place them in a serving dish and sprinkle with a tiny bit of basalmic vinegar.
YUM!

I just toast/saute sliced almonds in worchestershire sauce, butter, pepper, salt, garlic and onion (either spices or chopped gar/on) and mix this in with cooked green beans. I made them last year for Christmas and they were all eaten!! I really liked them too and this was during my "veggies make me gag" phase of pregnancy.
Good Luck finding a recipe!
