my youngest has tubes. He has been sleeping alot and not eating very well off and on for 3 weeks now. My oldest did also have tubes but he never had problems with his adnoids. It has been suggested to me this could be adnoids. I thought growth spurt but it has been going on a little longer than I think is normal. Where are your adnoids? how do you know if it is an adnoid problem as opposed to a growth spurt? his speech seems to be catching up to normal. his ears are still draining. not as much as they had been but I figu red it was cause the tubes were doing thier job. there is no fever. he is 2. Any ideas wether its a growth spurt, do i need to get his adnoids checked, any opinion is welcome and needed so I can consider what I need to do next. oh and he does not act like he has an ear infection either. he does have his whinny days but they aren't that many. not enough I feel he is sick.
his symptoms are better but when we get to houston I am getting a specialist for more than one reason. our medical here is very lacking. And more than one type of specialist for lots of medical situations he has going on. Thanks for all the answers.
Adenoids are a flashy protrusion located near (behind) the tonsils. They are sometimes removed because they can block the drainage of the Eustachian tubes. If your child snores, his adenoids may be too large or inflamed. My daughter's were removed the second time she had tubes and it was a great relief to her ear infection issues.
We had this discussion with the ENT 2 days ago as our 2 year old daughter will be getting tubes for the 2nd time in a few weeks. Because she neither snores nor has sleep apnea, we will not be removing the adenoids.
Adenoids and tonsils are part of the lymphatic system - part of our immune system intended to help trap and fight infections.

Our son went through a few sets of tubes and also had his adnoids removed on one of those occasions. I've never heard about a problem with them causing the conditions you talk about your son having. I would think more along the lines that he may be having sinus problems with all this season's allergy stuff and it's making him lose his appetite. I also think we all take spells of needing more sleep and eating less. Unless you see a sign of illness I wouldn't worry about these symptoms and I do think he would run a fever if there was any infection.
