I just had my 2 child 6 weeks ago. about a week b4 I had her my 6 yr old son was gettin sick so I rushed him into the dr to get him on an antibiotic b4 she came. well he got better for only a couple days, then he got sick again so I took him back into the dr got him on another antibiotic. my baby of course got rsv! :( he never got better I took him with me to the dr when I took his sister and he checked him out again said he sounded like he was clearing up (he gets bronchitis) so we let him get better on his own but he never did. Now that my baby is finally getting better, and he was kinda sounding a little better now I think he is getting a runny nose again! I am at my breaking point! I do not want my baby to get sick again! I don't know what to do! He takes a ton of vitamin c plus probiotics! He is washing his hands all the time. What else can I do!? I need to get him well so the rest of us quit getting it!

What can I do next?

The antibiotics are not working. He probably has a viral infection. he needs rest and lots of fluids. Make a pot of chicken soup and push fluids.

Spring is on the way! Usually kids are cold-free in the spring and summer so hang in there! In the meanwhile, try to keep your 6 yr old away from the baby when he has a runny nose and sneezing. Sanitize your surfaces regularly and keep up with the hand washing. You might also try moving your son's bedtime up a little. Sleep is the best thing to help build immunity.

Good luck!

I really think the most important thing is for you to wash your hands and use hand sanitizer all the time. Do not let you son touch the baby if he is sick. Avoid taking them places....even the grocery store. Let your husband shop or watch the kids while you do. The less you expose them the better. Also, limit visitors at your house. At least until late Spring. Even wash the babies hands as much as possible without irritating her skin.

I would get some vitamin A and probitotics. His system probably is so week and it is not able to build up the good bactirias to fight off the bad and the probitotics will help with that. And Vitamin A is an immune system booster as well as Zinc.

Good luck and God Bless!

I try to avoid antibiotics as much as possible to avoid weakening my child's immune system. I have two children and I use Chinese Medicine. They see an acupuncturist and herbalist who has given them amazing treatments; cupping, massage, acupuncture and herbs. The herbs are natural and work as strong as an antibiotic. The key is to understand your child's illness. Children's are going to get sick often, but you need to keep their immune system strong. Too much Vitamin C gives kids diarrhea, and weakens their immune system. Probiotics is a plus, keep giving your child probiotics daily. But I would also have him take herbs to build his immune system. Then you can also get on a regimen and take herbs too, which can help keep your baby strong if you are nursing. Then the herbs are transferred to your baby through your milk keeping her/him strong.
Seek an acupuncturist that treats children to help your son’s immune system. I go to Tao of Wellness and they see many children and help me better understand what exactly is going on with my child's cough and keep them strong and healthy.

Do you have family in town willing to take him while he's sick? To me, this seems to be the best option. As long as you are all in the same house, the potential will be there for him to share the germs. Your son won't be happy to be gone but if you explain to him that this needs to be done so baby can recover, he'll hopefully understand.

If you do have a grandma or sis or brother-in-law who can help out, be sure to disinfect the house the best you can, and hopefully everyone will have time to recover.

Otherwise, wear a mask when handling baby, be sure you are always handwashing, keep Purell handy just in case, try keeping the 6-year-old away from baby, and cutting down on visitors to the home, and play-dates for the 6-year-old. Not much you can do about what he gets at school though. School is such a petri dish for kids that age. :(

First the more you take them to the doc the more you are exposing them to every germ there is...docs offices are filled with germs, especially if they have toys or books out that the kids can play with. Unfortunately most things we catch are viral and antibiotics do not work for viral they are only for bacterial infections. So, if there little immune system is already down and you take them into a germ infested doc office you are only exposing them to more.

Keep them home for a while, don't take them out if you don't have too, let their immune systems recover a little then go back to your normal routines.

Get a pack of clorox wipes and just continually wipe everything down that your son can touch. If your son can manage, have him ONLY touch things with a wipe (like door knobs, cabinets, refrigerator, etc - things others will touch, as well).

I found that when I'm sick, if I don't clorox wipe my desk and everything communal, I'll get sick again.

This obviously isn't the only thing you should be doing, but if you add it to the handwashing, and other suggestions you get, it should get better.

They have Emergency for children now, you should give him some of that when he is feeling sick. It will help boost his immune system and give him all the extra vitamins he needs to get better. It will help make him feel better in the matter of hours.

I use Emergency all the time and it really does help. I use it when I think I am getting sick or when I just need extra energy for the day. Its natural and packed with the vitamins your body needs.

Should really look into it, it's a miracle worker for my family!

I don't have any suggestions other than to say - this season has been horrible for a LOT of people. We have spent most of it sick (all 6 of us...). Strep...ear infections...sinus problems...stomach viruses...you name it. I have never seen the likes of it before. And it's not just us - it seems like every day I come across people like you that are going crazy trying to keep their family sick-free! We eat very well balanced, take our vitamins...probiotics...yada yada...just like you. The only think I wish we were better about was handwashing - we're working on that! I hope it gets better...it is soooo frustrating!!
