Does anyone have 1 of these? I have 2 little girls, 6 and 7??? I think, around that age anyway, that I need to buy Christmas gifts for and saw these things and thought they were cute. Are these cool with kids or are they going to think it's dumb??? They are on sale at AC Moore for 50% off and I thougt it would be neat for them to get to name their own star. What do you think?

What can I do next?

While these Shining Star animals are adorable, and the concept is great, they do seem to appeal more strongly to adults than children. Adults appreciate the novelty and longevity of having a star named for us; children better appreciate the here and now, with something tangible that can be played with. A safer bet for you might be to purchase two Webkins for these little girls. I'm certain you probably know all about Webkins, but just in case you're new to this trend, Webkins are stuffed animals which come with their own cyber universe. Children use the computer to create houses, rooms and worlds for these pets, playing games to earn the money for purchases of items needed to furnish the houses. It's a fun concept and seems to be perfect for ages 6 and 7. You can often find Webkins on sale for as little as $6 at Ben Franklin stores. This is a great price for a gift that keeps on giving, because the children will get hours and hours of computer fun out of the same animal they can cuddle with and sleep with. :)

I purchased one each for both of my daughters and my little sister. My youngest, age 7, has been begging for a Shining Star for weeks. From what I hear, they are a big hit! And 50% off?? You can' go wrong! Take care!

Shining Star are OK. I have a 6 1/2 year old girl, and if you want to really make them happy, get them a Webkinz instead. They are "it" in that market. They talk about them at school, interact together online, etc.
