Selling a Treadmill

Hello Ladies...

I know this may be a dumb question, but I thought someone may know a thing or two about it...

I have a treadmill in my basement that I am wanting to sell. It has VERY low mileage (actually I think I used it about 4 times) and is in excellent condition. It is a very well known brand and it retails for $1000 if I were to buy it now. It is about 3 years old and I am wondering what to price it at.

I have a friend who is interested in buying it and I need to tell her a price soon. I have searched the internet and all I can find it the $1000 price tag...is that to steep. I think I paid $2500 for it, but that was 3 years ago.

What do ya think?

What can I do next?

even if something is "like new" you usually shouldn't ask for more than half of the retail price. Especially since it is 3 years old.

Be careful with this. I sold a friend a car for $750 and my hubby wanted $1,000. I will never live this down in his eyes, but then we found out the car had been impounded. I miss that car. I really don't have any solid advice for you, but be careful. If you try to charge your friend too much, they might resent it. However if you charge too little, you might resent it. I would just..........I don't know. Good luck. I don't know why I responded......I stink. LOL

I think anytime you sell anything used, you have to drastically reduce the price. We bought a really nice treadmill, probably retails for $1500 or more for $150 off of a coworker. If she's also your friend, and it's just sitting there anyway, I wouldn't ask more than $250. We paid $1400 for a big screen tv that we're selling for $400 to a friend, and it's a nice one, so you really have to reduce stuff unless you're selling to a stranger who has answered an ad or something, which is also an option...craigslist.

I would put an ad on Craigslist for $1000 and if you don't get a response in a week then I would sell it to your friend. Keep in mind times are tough right now and people don't want to spend a lot of money, especially on a non-nessisty like a treadmill. If this person is a friend, I would give them a good price, like maybe $800? Good luck!

If I could by a used treadmill for $1000 or I could by the exact brand new under warranty treadmill for $1000...I would buy the new. If I could save $250 or more and buy a friends slightly used treadmill..I would save $250 or more. I think about $500 - $750 would be appropriate. Otherwise if there is no "savings" for your friend then why buy used. I know you paid way more but really if it is just sitting there unused it is of no value at all.

Hi,

Another place to check prices would be a consignment shop (Play it Again Sports or something like that, or just a general concsignment shop). Or your local thrift store (Salvation Army, Goodwill etc.). Has anything like it sold recently on ebay (if that wasn't part of your internet check)? Just some thoughts....

If it is a really good brand and in good shape, I would think your $1000 is not bad. That's less than half the price, so she's getting a good deal. Also, shop around and see how much new ones cost these days and go from there. This isn't a yard sale, so you want to get a good deal here.

Good luck!

I would check eBay or Craigslist and see what similar items are currently going for. That will give you an idea of the market value. I recently sold a treadmill on Craigslist and I know I paid at least $1000 for it a few years ago and I was only able to sell it for $100.
