Seeking Thanksgiving Recipe
I'm looking for a recipe to take to Thanksgiving Dinner this Thursday, I've never brought anything to the table other than rolls or chips and this year I want something fun and tasty, I'm not a very good cook but I'm willing to try anything, I need to step out of my comfort zone and try doing something different. I'd appreciate your favorite dish, whether its simple or complicated or if you have an Idea but no recipe, I'd still appreciate it, I can try looking up your Idea on the internet, I just don’t know where to begin. I don’t mind if it’s a part of the dinner or a desert.
Thanks.

I made Thanksgiving dinner for the first time last year. I made garlic mashed potatoes, stuffing, candied yams, etc. I got all of my recipes from www.allrecipes.com. There are a million ideas, and they have a section just for Thanksgiving. I use the site all year round to make new and varied dishes for dinners!

I'll share with you (and others!) the best appetizer:
Artichoke Dip.
Drain one can of artichoke and chop.
Mix together 1 C. mayo (the real stuff), about 4 oz. fresh parmesan cheese and 3-4 cloves of fresh garlic, chopped finely. Mix in artichokes and place in 2 small baking dishes and sprinkle with paprika. Bake at 350 for about 20 or 25 minutes, until bubbly. Serve with toasted bread, bagel chips, veggies. Really, it is darn good.

Hi J.
If your doing a Turkey, the thing I recommend is use turkey size cooking bags, there is a recipe booklet in the box. Usually, I think it said to baste it with oil, add some veggies (onion, celery, carrots), I never had it come out dry this way. There is also a couple of other recipes, if you want.

Hi J.,
This Carmel-Apple Pie recipe is a favorite for our Thansgiving dinner. And, if you don't feel comfortable making your own pie crust you can substitute a pre-made one instead. Have fun making it and Happy Thanksgiving.
Caramel-Apple Pie
Makes 10 servings
Prep: 35 minutes
Bake: 55 minutes
Ingredients
1 recipe Piecrust (see recipe below)
1 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
6 cups peeled and coarsely chopped Jonathan apples
1/2 cup caramel-apple dip
2 tablespoons milk
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup butter
Directions
1. Prepare Piecrust. On a lightly floured surface, roll dough from center to edge into a 12-inch circle. Wrap pastry around a rolling pin. Unroll into a 9-inch pie plate. Ease pastry into pie plate. Trim to 1/2 inch beyond edge of plate. Fold under pastry; crimp. Don't prick pastry.
2. For filling, in a large bowl, combine granulated sugar, the 1/4 cup flour, and the cinnamon. Add the apples and toss to coat. Transfer to pastry-lined pie plate. Combine 2 tablespoons of the caramel-apple dip and the milk; drizzle over apples.
3. In a mixing bowl, combine the 1 cup flour and the brown sugar. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle over filling. Cover edge of pie with foil to prevent overbrowning. Place on a baking sheet.
4. Bake in a 350 degree F oven for 30 minutes. Remove foil. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes more or until golden. Cool 10 minutes. Drizzle remaining caramel dip over top. Cool pie on a wire rack. Makes 10 servings.
Piecrust: In a medium bowl, cut 1/3 cup butter into 1-1/4 cups all-purpose flour with a pastry blender until pieces are the size of peas. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon milk over part of the mixture; gently toss with a fork. Repeat moistening the dough, using 3 tablespoons more milk (1 tablespoon at a time), until all the dough is moistened. Shape into a ball.

If you looking for something interesting, why not try frog-eyed salad. Go down the pasta isle at the supermarket & look for a 1 lb box of Acini Di Pepe. The recipe is on the back of the box. I use the recipe on the back, but add to it, 1 Tablespoon orange juice, to the items cooking in the pan & a small can of mandarine oranges.. when the fruit cocktail is added in the recipe. Also, don't use white marshmallows, use the multi-colored kind. It's a hit with my kids!
If you want to wow your family, another idea is homemade chips & dip. Using Autumn or Thanksgiving cookie cutters, cut out shapes from soft flour tortillas. (Push really hard because tortillas are a lot harder to cut than cookie dough!) Brown shapes on both sides, in a large frying pan, with cooking oil. Put shapes on paper towels to drain greese. I do the ranch/salsa dip or the cream cheese/salsa dip. Good luck!

Hi J.,
I am from Czech Republic myself and we don't have Thanksgiving over there. So I had to find some recipes when I came to the States. There is a very good web site with awesome recipes and craft ideas: http://familyfun.go.com/
Clik on Thanksgiving and then on cakes & recipes. I have done
tripple layer pumpkin pie (with chocolate) - very good! and cider cranberry sauce (also very good). I am sure you will find something interesting that will work for you.
have a great thanksgiving
J.
